Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
The Warriors only managed to go .500 over their first 20 games this year at 10-10 overall. Hawaii has been much better in their last eight with a 6-2 run featuring wins over Cal Poly, CSU Fullerton, UC San Diego, UC Davis, Cal Poly again and Long Beach State. The losses came to only UC Irvine and UCSB.
In the Long Beach State game on Saturday, the Warriors came out of halftime with a 40-33 edge. Hawaii kept the pace with 33 more points from there and took the victory 73-65 in the end. The Warriors’ lead scorer was Justin McKoy on 26 points and six rebounds.
UC Davis Aggies
Over on the UC Davis side, they were 12-8 through their first 20 games then beat UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and CSU Fullerton in succession. The Aggies are just 1-4 in their last five though, falling to Hawaii, Long Beach State, UC Riverside and CSU Bakersfield in that stretch.
Matched up against CSU Bakersfield in their Saturday outing, UC Davis was down 33-26 going into the second half. The Aggies were outscored 42-30 the rest of the way and lost 75-56. The team’s only double-digit scorer was Ty Johnson on 22 points, five boards and two assists.
ANDREW’S FREE HAWAII VS UC DAVIS PREDICTION
I’m going to lean toward Hawaii here. The Warriors handled a pretty good Long Beach State team well in their last matchup thanks to a 34-29 rebounding advantage and a complete dud (0-of-10) from 3-point range by the Beach. Hawaii has hit 71 or more points in five straight games and they’re scoring well overall since late January.
The Warriors took an 87-70 win at home the last time these teams met up back on February 10. Hawaii ended up shooting a nice 53.1 percent from the field and had a 39-27 rebounding edge (with 14 turnovers as well). With the Warriors on a nice run right now, I think they’re good for a cover/win in the road rematch.
Andrew’s Pick Hawaii Rainbow Warriors +1
