The UMass Minutemen and the George Washington Revolutionaries meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Charles E. Smith Center. UMass is sitting at 17-10 overall after a loss to St. Bonaventure. As for George Washington, they’re riding a lengthy losing streak at 14-13 after falling versus Saint Louis over the weekend. Let’s get into our UMass vs. George Washington prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.

UMass Minutemen

The Minutemen had a fairly sketchy start to the season, going 12-7 over their first 19 games. UMass has been on a 5-3 sun since then with wins over Saint Louis, George Mason, Rhode Island, Richmond and VCU alongside losses to St. Bonaventure (twice) and La Salle.

In the rematch with St. Bonaventure on Saturday, the Minutemen came out of halftime with a 38-36 edge. UMass was outscored from there 39-29 and ended up falling 75-67 in the end. Chad Venning was the team’s leading scorer on 16 points, 10 rebounds and two steals.

George Washington Revolutionaries

Over on the Revolutionaries’ side, they got off to a nice start with losses to only UIC, South Carolina and Fordham in their first 17 games. George Washington has lost to UMass, Richmond, La Salle, Dayton, Rhode Island, Loyola, George Mason, Richmond again, Saint Joseph’s and Saint Louis since then.

In their latest game versus Saint Louis over the weekend, the Revolutionaries were down 55-42 in the locker room. George Washington came back with a 49-41 advantage from there but still lost 96-91. Tops in scoring was James Bishop with 34 points, six assists and five rebounds in the defeat.

I’ll take a stab on George Washington. Probably not touching this one, though. The Revolutionaries played well on offense versus Saint Louis in their last outing (51.7 percent shooting) however they also gave up 50.9 percent shooting on the other side in a rough defensive performance. If there’s god news it’s that George Washington has been within five points in each of their last two losses.

The last time these teams saw each other on January 20, the Minutemen secured an 81-67 home win. George Washington was able to hang around in the first half during that defeat, but eventually shot just 36.2 percent from the field with 15 turnovers. A better offensive effort would go a long way in the home rematch.

Andrew’s Pick George Washington Revolutionaries +6.5
