Texas Longhorns Preview

Texas enters at 17-9 after defeating Kansas State in Austin, 62-56. The Longhorns held the Wildcats off after the break, and they’ll look to avoid trading a seventh straight game here in Lawrence. Texas is scoring 75.7 points per game, on 47.2% shooting, while allowing 68.4 ppg, and they’re currently 9th in the Big 12 with a 6-7 record in conference play. The Longhorns are 4-6 over their last ten games, and they’re 3-4 on the road this season.

Texas Team Profile

  • Rodney Terry’s team plays tends to play at a slower pace, averaging 70.3 possessions per game (210th), but they’ve shot very well from the outside, connecting on 36.9% of their three-point shots (33rd).
  • Oral Roberts transfer Max Abmas has scored 19 points or more in three of his previous five outings, and he leads Texas in scoring (17.3) and assists (4.4).
  • Veteran forward Dylan Disu combined for 55 points in the WVU & ISU matchups, and he’s up to 16.9 ppg and 4.9 rpg.
  • Tampa native Dillon Mitchell posted a double-double in the road win over TCU, and he leads the Longhorns in rebounding (8.5), while scoring 10.6 ppg.
  • Former ISU guard Tyrese Hunter bounced back from a poor performance against his former school with a 19-point showing against WVU, and he’s averaging 11.1 ppg and 4.3 apg.

Kansas Jayhawks Preview

Kansas improved to 20-6 after defeating Oklahoma in Norman, 67-57. The Jayhawks outscored the Sooners in both halves, and they’ll also look win consecutive games for the first time in two weeks. Kansas is scoring 76:6 points per game, on 49.8% shooting, while allowing 68.0 ppg, and they’re currently 5th in the Big 12 with a 8-5 record in league play. The Jayhawks are 6-4 over their last ten games, and they’re 13-0 in Lawrence this season.

Kansas Team Profile

  • Bill Self’s team moves at a balanced pace, averaging 71.3 possessions per game (151st), and they’ve been solid from the outside, connecting on 34.6% of their threes (146th).
  • Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson was neutralized by the Texas Tech defense, but he still leads Kansas in rebounding (10.8), while scoring 18.2 ppg.
  • Austin native KJ Adams Jr. also had a long night in Lubbock, but he’s been efficient this season, as he’s averaging 12.4  ppg, while shooting 61.2% from the field.
  • Veteran guard Dajuan Harris Jr. has tallied seven dimes or more in four of the last seven games, and he leads KU in assists (6.5), while scoring 7.9 ppg.
  • Former TTU swingman Kevin McCullar Jr. (19.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 4.6 ago) has missed three of the previous five games, and his status for this contest should be monitored.

Texas vs Kansas Trends

  • TEX is 9-17 against the spread, woverith a 14-12 O/U record
  • KU is 11-14-1 ATS, with a 12-14 /under record.

Texas vs Kansas Prediction

Kansas got a much-needed win over Oklahoma, and they come into a nice spot to keep rolling here versus Texas. The Jayhawks have been flawless at Allen Fieldhouse this season, and with the Longhorns struggling away from Austin, both trends may continue this weekend. I’d tilt the number for safety, and back Kansas for this Big 12 matchup.
