The Texas Southern Tigers and the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils meet Saturday in college basketball action from Harrison HPER Complex. Texas Southern is fresh off a win over Southern, moving to 10-14 so far. As for MS Valley State, they’re winless through 26 games after falling to Alabama State. Let’s get into our Texas Southern vs. MS Valley State prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.

Texas Southern Tigers

The Tigers only managed to win five of their first 17 games this year. Things improved with four straight wins over Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M and Florida A&M, though. Texas Southern would then fall to Bethune-Cookman and Grambling before beating Southern.

On Monday versus Southern, the Tigers were up 37-23 going into the second half. Texas Southern finished up on a 33-31 run from there and cruised to the win 68-56. Leading team scorer PJ Henry managed 23 points with four rebounds and two steals.

MS Valley State Delta Devils

Over on the Mississippi Valley State side, it’s been a completely futile run through 26 games so far. In the last 10 outings, the Devils have fallen to Texas Southern, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling, Southern, AR-Pine Bluff, Jackson State, Alcorn State, Alabama A&M and Alabama State.

In the Alabama State matchup back on Monday, the Delta Devils went into the break trailing 31-26. MS Valley State didn’t end up getting any closer on a 30-20 run from there and lost 61-46. Rayquan Brown led the way on 16 points with seven rebounds in the defeat.

I’m going to take a wild stab on MS Valley State. Probably not touching this one, though. The Delta Devils didn’t play all that well versus Alabama State in their last outing, and three of their starters came up empty points-wise. The shooting was awful (27.5 percent) and MS Valley State coughed up 19 turnovers as well. That said, coming back home should provide a bit of a lift.

The last time these teams met up on January 15, MS Valley State took a 93-61 blowout loss on the road. The shooting was bad in that one as well (33.8 percent) but the Delta Devils were strong on the boards (42). It’s going to take a much better offensive effort in order to even cover here, but I think the Devils have a reasonable shot.
