The Texas A&M Aggies and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena. Texas A&M sits at 15-11 overall following a loss to Arkansas on Tuesday. As for Tennessee, they’re coming off a win over Missouri that pushed the Vols to 20-6 so far. Let’s get into our Texas A&M vs. Tennessee prediction. Texas A&M Aggies
The Aggies have had a choppy year against some stiff competition but they’ve managed to maintain a winning record the whole way. Texas A&M beat Florida, Missouri and Tennessee in succession to start the month, then lost to Vanderbilt, Alabama and Arkansas in the next trio.
On Tuesday versus Arkansas, the Aggies were down 35-31 to start the second half. Texas A&M didn’t end up getting any closer on a 43-40 run from there and lost 78-71 in the end. Tops in scoring was Jace Carter with his 14 points, two rebounds and one steal in 32 minutes of work.
Tennessee Volunteers
Over on the Tennessee side, they managed to go 15-5 to start the year, losing to only Purdue, Kansas, North Carolina, Mississippi State and South Carolina. It’s been a 5-1 run since then with wins over Kentucky, LSU, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Missouri alongside a loss to Texas A&M.
Matched up against Missouri in their latest outing on Tuesday, the Volunteers were facing a three-point deficit going into the second half. Tennessee rallied on a 46-38 run the rest of the way and took the win 72-67. Tobe Awaka came off the bench to double up on 18 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
ANDREW’S FREE TEXAS A&M VS TENNESSEE PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Tennessee. The Volunteers will need a cleaner effort than they got in their Missouri win, though. Tennessee shot a reasonable 42.1 percent from the field in that one and coughed up 15 turnovers that led to 15 Tigers points. The good news is that the Vols have 72 or more points in three straight, and 88 or more in two of those.
The last time these teams saw each other on February 10, Tennessee took a rough upset road loss 85-69. The Volunteers shot a rough 37.1 percent from the field in that one, missed 10 of 25 free throws (60 percent) and got out-rebounded 43-35. Tennessee is primed for some revenge in the home rematch if they can clean up their act across the board. I think the Volunteers will pull it off—it’ll be a great matchup to watch regardless.
