Queens Royals
The Royals managed an 8-14 start to the season over their first 22 games, then hit wins over Eastern Kentucky and Bellarmine in the next pair. After losses to Lipscomb, Austin Peay and North Florida, Queens took another set of consecutive wins over Jacksonville and Stetson.
In the Stetson game on Thursday, the Royals came out of the break with a 49-41 edge. Queens kept the pace from there with 34 more points and bagged the victory 83-75. Deyton Albury paced the team on his 16 bench points, and BJ McLaurin added 16 points as well with six rebounds.
FGCU Eagles
Over on the Florida Gulf Coast side, they started the year on a 7-12 run. The Eagles are 4-5 since then with wins over Stetson, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas and Bellarmine alongside losses to Lipscomb, North Alabama, Eastern Kentucky, Stetson and Kennesaw State.
Matched up against the Owls on Thursday, the Eagles were down 37-30 going into the second half. Florida Gulf Coast hit a 37-37 run in the second half and took the loss 74-67. Keeshawn Kellman was the leading team scorer on his 17 points with six rebounds in 35 minutes.
ANDREW’S FREE QUEENS VS FLORIDA GULF COAST PREDICTION
I’ll stay with Queens here. The Royals notched a nice win over a decent Stetson team on Thursday, hitting 52.6 percent from the field with 33 rebounds and 13 team assists. The 12 turnovers didn’t help, but the 17 points off 13 Hatters turnovers did. Queens is scoring great these days with 74 or more points in 11 straight.
The last time these teams met was on January 10 in a 78-75 home win for the Royals. It was a tight matchup the whole way, and the teams finished with similar stats across the board. This rematch is probably going to be close as well, but I think Queens has a good cover shot if they can continue the offensive run.
Andrew’s Pick Queens Royals +4.5
