Northwestern State Demons

The Demons only managed five wins in their first 18 games this year during a rough start. Northwestern State is 3-6 since then with losses to SE Louisiana, Texas A&M-CC, McNeese State, Nicholls State, SE Louisiana again and Texas A&M-CC again in that time.

In the rematch versus the Islanders on Monday, Northwestern State came out of the break with a 38-24 deficit. The Demons got slightly better from there on a 37-34 run but still lost 72-61 in the end. Duane Posey was the team’s top scorer with his 16 points and nine rebounds.

Houston Christian Huskies

Over on the Huskies’ side, they were sitting at 5-12 at the 17-game mark in late January. Since then Houston Christian is just 1-6 with losses to Incarnate Word, SE Louisiana, Nicholls State, New Orleans, McNeese State and SE Louisiana again alongside a lone win over Incarnate Word.

On Saturday in their rematch versus SE Louisiana, the Huskies got closer to a victory but still fell short. Houston Christian was up by one point in the locker room, then fell behind 43-39 the rest of the way for an 81-78 loss. Michael Imariagbe and Dominic Capriotti led the way on 19 points each.

I’ll lean toward Northwestern State. There’s not a lot to get excited about here if your’e not a fan of either team, but we should have a fairly well-balanced matchup. The Demons were pretty listless in their latest loss to Texas A&M-CC, shooting just 38.2 percent from the field and 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from outside with a 48-35 rebounding deficit and 10 turnovers.

The good news for the Demons is that they won 69-64 at home the last time these teams met up back on January 15. Northwestern State hit a reasonable 43.5 percent from the field in that one and scored 24 points off 21 Huskies turnovers (the Demons had 18 turnovers themselves, however). Northwestern State should have a reasonable shot at a cover in the rematch if they can minimize the mistakes.

Andrew’s Pick Northwestern State Demons -3
