The NJIT Highlanders and the New Hampshire Wildcats meet Thursday in college basketball action from Lundholm Gym. NJIT is sitting at 7-17 overall following a loss to Binghamton. As for New Hampshire, they fell to Vermont last week to move to 14-10 this season. Let’s get into our NJIT vs. New Hampshire prediction. NJIT Highlanders
The Highlanders posted just four wins over their first 18 games of the season. NJIT would then hit a 3-1 stretch featuring wins over UMBC, Vermont and UMass Lowell (and a loss to Binghamton) before two more losses to Albany and Binghamton.
In the rematch with Binghamton on Saturday, the Highlanders couldn’t get much going on offense. NJIT scored just 28 points in the first half and 27 more in the second during a flat loss 69-55. Tariq Francis was the leading team scorer on 18 points, four steals and four rebounds.
New Hampshire Wildcats
Over on the New Hampshire side, they posted a 9-7 run over their first 16 games this year. The Wildcats have since gone 5-3 with victories over NJIT, UMBC, Binghamton, UMass Lowell and Maine alongside losses to Albany, Bryant and Vermont during that time.
Last Thursday versus Vermont, the Wildcats had trouble scoring as well. New Hampshire was within two points 29-27 by the break, then got outscored 41-27 from there in a 70-54 defeat. Jaxon Baker managed a double-double in the losing effort with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE NJIT VS NEW HAMPSHIRE PREDICTION
I’ll probably take a stab on NJIT. There’s not much to like about this one though, with both teams coming off fairly listless offensive performances in losses. The Highlanders shot a dismal 31.5 percent from the field with just seven assists in their last outing versus Binghamton. That makes 64 or fewer points in three of the last four games (a 2-2 run).
These teams last met up back on January 18 in a 70-62 road loss for NJIT. The Highlanders shot just 33.9 percent from the field in that one but did benefit from 19 New Hampshire turnovers. NJIT is going to have to get their offense working quickly in order to keep pace in this one, but if they get off to a good start I think they’ve got a decent shot at a cover. I’m not touching this game, though.
