The Central Connecticut State Blue Devils and the Wagner Seahawks meet Thursday in college basketball action from Spiro Sports Center. Central Connecticut is 15-10 so far and fresh off an overtime loss to Le Moyne. As for Wagner, they’re .500 through 24 games following a loss to Sacred Heart.
Central CT State Blue Devils
Central Connecticut started out the year at 9-8 overall, then hit a win streak over LIU, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner and St. Francis PA. It’s been a 2-2 run since then with losses to Merrimack and Le Moyne around wins versus Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson in that time.
In the Le Moyne matchup last Thursday, the Blue Devils took a tough defeat. Central Connecticut scored 30 points in the first half, 30 in the second and four in overtime for a 69-64 loss. Top scorer Kellen Amos posted 26 points, and Tre Breland doubled on 16 points and 12 boards.
Wagner Seahawks
Over on the Wagner side, they’ve been hovering around the .500 mark for most of the year. After a 9-10 start the Seahawks have gone 3-2 in their last five. The wins in that time were over Le Moyne, Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Francis PA; the losses were to Stonehill and Sacred Heart.
In the Sacred Heart game over the weekend, the Seahawks went into the second half knotted up at 29-29. Wagner was outpaced from there 34-24 and lost 63-53. Leading the way in the defeat was Melvin Council on 17 points, four rebounds and two assists.
ANDREW’S FREE CENTRAL CONNECTICUT VS WAGNER PREDICTION
I’ll likely stick with Central Connecticut. The Blue Devils really need an offensive rebound from their dismal shooting effort versus Le Moyne, however. Central Connecticut shot just 29.4 percent from the field in that one, however they did have a 48-36 rebounding edge (17-4 offensive).
This should be a pretty tight matchup overall. The last time these teams met up, Wagner pulled off a 69-68 road victory in overtime. Neither team shot all that well in the first meeting, and it was tight the whole way. I like Central Connecticut to get some revenge on a road cover here, but they’ve got to get the offense going.
Andrew’s Pick Central Connecticut State Blue Devils -3
