St. John’s Red Storm Preview
St. John’s fell to 14-12 after losing to Seton Hall in Elmont, 68-62. The Red Storm watched another lead evaporate versus the Pirates, and they’ll look to calm things down here in D.C. St. John’s is scoring 77.0 points per game, on 44.3% shooting, while allowing 70.9 ppg, and they’re currently 9rh in the Big East with a 6-9 record in conference play. The Red Storm are 2-8 over their last ten games, and they’ve gone 2-6 on the road this season.
St. John’s Team Profile
- Rick Pitino’s team plays at a solid pace, averaging 71.5 possessions per game (157th), but they’ve only knocked down 32.6% of their three-point shots (248th).
- Veteran big man Joel Soriano remains at the heart of the St. John’s lineup, and he leads the team in scoring (16.1) and rebounding (9.7).
- Iona transfer Daniss Jenkins poured in a game-high 25 points in the Xavier defeat, and he’s averaging 13.9 ppg and a team-leading 5.6 apg.
- Former Harvard forward Chris Ledlum double-doubled in the narrow loss to Marquette, and he’s up to 9.5 ppg and 7.4 rpg.

Georgetown Hoyas Preview
Georgetown fell to 8-17 after losing to Villanova at home, 70-54. The Hoyas were outscored in both halves by the Wildcats, and they’ll look to stop the bleeding here against the Red Storm. Georgetown is scoring 71.6 points per game, on 41.6% shooting, while allowing 76.9 ppg, and they’re currently 11th in the Big East with a 1-13 record in league play. The Hoyas are 0-10 over their last ten games, and they’ve gone 7-9 in D.C. this season.
Georgetown Team Profile
- Ed Cooley’s group plays at a normal pace, averaging 71.7 possessions per game (177th), and they’ve been solid from deep this season, knocking down 33.9% of threes (183rd).
- Norfolk native Jayden Epps has struggled thru four February contests, but he still leads Georgetown in scoring (17.6) and assists (4.3).
- Junior swingman Dontrez Styles has hit the 20-point mark in two of his last three outings, and he's second on the team at 13.5 ppg and 5.8 rpg.
- Fairfield transfer Supreme Cook posted an 18-point double-double in the Creighton matchup, and he leads the Hoyas in rebounding (8.2), while scoring 11.7 ppg.

St. John’s vs Georgetown Prediction
It’s been tough watching St. John’s season unfold, as they’ve blown over a handful of leads this Winter, and it’s taken their legendary coach on a real roller coaster during his first season in Queens. I do not believe the Red Storm hit rock bottom here with a stinker in the Capitol versus a lousy Georgetown. Both Rick Pitino and Ed Cooley have seen better days in the conference at Louisville and Providence respectively, but the latter has inherited a real mess in D.C., and we should see more of the same this Wednesday. Big East basketball gave us an upset in the UConn/Creighton matchup last night, but with the Hoyas’ struggles being far worse than the Red Storm’s, the home upset shouldn’t be in play here. St. John’s recent form of play warrants tilting their number for safety here, and I like swaying their way against Georgetown, as they look to salvage a lost season.
