The Virginia Cavaliers and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Monday in college basketball action from Cassell Coliseum. Virginia sits at 20-6 overall this year following a win over Wake Forest on Saturday. As for Virginia Tech, they’re coming off a loss to North Carolina that dropped the Hokies to 14-11 so far. Let’s get into our Virginia vs. Virginia Tech prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.

Virginia Cavaliers

The Cavaliers lost just five of their first 24 games this year. Those defeats came courtesy of Wisconsin, Memphis, Notre Dame, NC State and Wake Forest. After an eight-game win streak coming into February, Virginia took a loss to Pittsburgh before bouncing back against Wake Forest.

On Saturday versus the Demon Deacons, the Cavaliers trailed 22-21 going into the second half. Virginia came back with a 28-25 run from there and won it 49-47, though. Leading team scorer Reece Beekman managed 20 points with six rebounds and four assists.

Virginia Tech Hokies

Over on the Hokies’ side, they were 10-7 in the middle of last month then hit a win streak over NC State, Boston College and Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech is 1-4 in the last five games with a lone win over Florida State among losses to Duke, Miami, Notre Dame and North Carolina.

Matched up against the Tar Heels over the weekend, the Hokies were down 50-39 going into the second half. Virginia Tech posted a 46-42 deficit the rest of the way and lost 96-81. MJ Collins led the way in scoring with 18 points while Mylyjael Poteat managed 15 points with eight boards off the bench.

ANDREW’S FREE VIRGINIA VS VIRGINIA TECH PREDICTION

I’ll stay with Virginia in this one. The Cavaliers got back to business in their last matchup versus Wake Forest, holding the Deacons to 34.5 percent shooting and scoring 13 points off 12 turnovers. It was a nice return to form after giving up a combined 150 points across the previous two outings.

These teams last met up back on January 17 in a 65-57 home win for the Cavaliers. In that game Virginia shot 46.3 percent from the field with 33 rebounds, 18 assists and 38.9 percent shooting allowed in a well-rounded win. If the Cavaliers can produce another effort like that in the rematch I don’t think Virginia Tech has the offensive strength to keep pace. It'll be a fun matchup regardless though, and a great one to watch.

Andrew’s Pick Virginia Cavaliers +1.5
