The Nicholls State Colonels and the New Orleans Privateers meet Monday in college basketball action from Lakefront Arena. Nicholls is 13-12 on the season after a loss to McNeese over the weekend. As for New Orleans, they’re coming off a loss to Lamar that dropped the Privateers to 8-18 so far. Let’s get into our Nicholls State vs. New Orleans prediction. Nicholls Colonels
Nicholls State posted a sketchy 7-9 run to start out the year, but then hit wins over New Orleans, Incarnate Word, Texas A&M-Commerce, Houston Christian and Northwestern State int he next six. The Colonels are 1-2 since then with losses to Lamar and McNeese State.
In the McNeese State matchup over the weekend, the Colonels were outgunned. After a 29-22 first-half deficit, Nicholls State fell behind on a 45-25 run for a 74-47 blowout loss. Diante Smith led the team on his 13 points with two assists.
New Orleans Privateers
Over on the Privateers’ side, they were also 7-9 through their first 16 games this year. New Orleans has only won one game since January 13 though. Since that latest victory over Houston Christian, New Orleans has fallen to Texas A&M-Commerce, Northwestern State and Lamar.
Matched up against Lamar on Saturday, the Privateers fell behind by nine points in the first half. New Orleans hit a 49-36 run from there and ended falling 94-72 in the end. Khaleb Wilson-Rouse posted 20 points with three rebounds and two assists in the losing effort.
ANDREW’S FREE NICHOLLS STATE VS NEW ORLEANS PREDICTION
I’ll take a stab on New Orleans, but realistically I’m not touching this one. Both teams are struggling right now and there’s not much to like here. The Privateers gave up 56.9 percent shooting to Lamar in their last outing and were out-rebounded 45-25 along the way. If there’s good news, it’s that New Orleans has scored 72 or more points in five of their last six.
When these teams last met back on January 15, Nicholls State eked out a home win 78-75. Both teams rebounded pretty well and were solid on offense (46 percent shooting for New Orleans; 52.5 percent for Nicholls). If both teams are on point we should see some more fireworks like that. I like New Orleans to power out a revenge cover/win in a fairly high-scoring game.
Andrew’s Pick New Orleans Privateers +1.5
