George Washington Revolutionaries Preview

George Washington enters 14-9 after losing to Loyola Chicago in DC, 81-73. The Revolutionaries couldn’t overcome a slow start against the Ramblers en route to a sixth straight loss, and they’ll attempt to stop bleeding here in Fairfax. GWU is scoring 79.0 points per game, on 44.1% shooting, while allowing 77.1 ppg, and they’re currently 12th in the Atlantic 10 with a 3-7 record in conference play. The Revolutionaries are 3-7 over their previous ten games, and they’ve gone 1-4 on the road this season.

GWU’s Impact Players

  • Baltimore native James Bishop IV snapped a cold streak with 25 points in the Loyola defeat, and he leads George Washington in scoring (17.4) and assists (4.5).
  • Freshman forward Darren Buchanan Jr. led the way with 21 points in the home win over GMU, and he’s second on the team at 15.5 ppg and 6.7 rpg.
  • Sophomore guard Maximus Edwards has reached double figures in seven of the last ten games, and he leads the Revs in rebounding (7.1), while scoring 12.3 ppg.
  • First-year swingman Garrett Johnson has cooled off since a strong start in January, but he’s still third on the team at 13.8 ppg.

George Mason Patriots Preview

George Mason improved to 16-8 after defeating Davidson in Carolina by two, 57-55. The Patriots found a way to edge the Wildcats out on the road, and they’ll look to double down here in regional action versus GWU. GMU is scoring 73.7 points per game, on 46.7% shooting, while allowing 67.3 ppg. and they’re currently 7th in the A10 with a 5-6 record in league play. The Patriots are 4-6 over their last ten games, and they’ve gone 11-2 in Fairfax this season. George Mason will meet Dayton after this one.

GMU’s Impact Players

  • UNLV transfer Keyshawn Hall came thru with a game-high 25 points in the road win over Davidson, and he leads George Mason in scoring (17.7) and rebounding (8.5).
  • Former VT guard Darius Maddox (13.8 ppg) has been consistent alongside him, but after missing the Davidson game on Saturday his status should be monitored for this contest.
  • Norcross native Amari Kelly scored 14 points in the January 15th matchup with GMU, and he’s 11.8 ppg and 6.1 rpg.

George Washington vs George Mason Prediction

This battle of presidents features two DMV schools who’ve taken their share of blows from the improving Atlantic 10 conference. If there’s a game for GWU to catch fire and stop the skid, it could be here against a limited GMU team, but after dropping six straight, they may not be the group to trust on the road. The Patriots have leaned on their defense this season, and while they may not be able to score with the Revs, they’re good at preventing baskets, which should reflect on the scoreboard. Let’s back Mason to follow up their road win over Davidson with another strong effort on the defensive end, and back the Under for this regional battle.
