The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders and the Nicholls State Colonels meet Monday in college basketball action from Stopher Gym. Texas A&M-CC is fresh off a loss to McNeese State, dropping the Islanders to 14-9 overall. As for Nicholls State, they’re 12-11 after a loss to Lamar on Saturday. Let’s get into our Texas A&M-CC vs. Nicholls State prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.
Texas A&M-CC Islanders
The Islanders took losses to Houston, Texas Tech, Northern Kentucky, Long Island U, UTRGV, Texas, New Orleans and McNeese State in their first 19 games of the season. Since then it’s been a 3-1 run with wins over Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce and Lamar followed by another loss to McNeese.
In the rematch with McNeese back on Saturday, the Islanders faced a 30-21 deficit going into the second half. Texas A&M-CC got better from there with 46 more points but couldn’t recover in a 74-67 loss. Leading scorer Gary Clark finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals.
Nicholls State Colonels
Over on the Nicholls side, they lost to Tulane, Denver, SIU Edwardsville, Mississippi State, Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Maryland, Towson, Lamar and Texas A&M-CC in their first 18 outings. The Colonels beat Texas A&M-Commerce, Incarnate Word, Houston Christian and Northwestern State before another loss to Lamar.
Matched up against Lamar on Saturday, the Colonels were within two points at the break. Nicholls State was outscored 45-28 from there however, resulting in a 75-56 loss. Diante Smith was the team’s leading scorer on 15 points with nine rebounds and three assists.
ANDREW’S FREE TEXAS A&M-CC VS NICHOLLS STATE PREDICTION
I’ll try Texas A&M-CC in this one. The Islanders need a good turnaround after a rough matchup versus McNeese, though. Texas A&M-CC shot just 40.4 percent from the field and 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from 3-point range in that one, coughing up 17 turnovers along the way. That said, The Islanders have scored pretty well lately with 67 or more points in four straight.
These teams last met up back on January 20 in a home win for the Islanders 69-59. Neither team shot well (both below 39.8 percent) and there were 30 combined turnovers (18 for Nicholls) in a sloppy outing. This one’s probably going to be pretty competitive, but I think Texas A&M-CC can pull if off if they play well.
Andrew’s Pick Texas A&M-CC Islanders -2.5
