Prairie View A&M Panthers
The Panthers kicked things off with a 7-10 run this year, beating Kansas Christian, Abilene Christian, TN-Martin, Eastern Kentucky, North American, MS Valley State and Jackson State. It’s been a 2-4 stretch since then with losses to Alcorn State, Alabama State, Texas Southern and Bethune-Cookman.
In the Bethune-Cookman matchup on Saturday, the Panthers were down 40-28 after the first half. Prairie View came back with a 50-44 run in the second but it wasn’t enough in an 84-78 defeat. Charles Lane was the leading team scorer with 22 points and three assists in 27 minutes of work.
Florida A&M Rattlers
Over on the Florida A&M side, they are only able to win four of their first 18 games this year. Those victories came versus Presbyterian, LeMoyne-Owen, MS Valley State and Jackson State. It’s been losses to Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Texas Southern since then.
Back on Saturday versus Texas Southern, the Rattlers had a close call but came up short. Florida A&M scored 29 points in the first half, 33 in the second and 13 in overtime for a 78-75 loss. Keith Lamar was the top scorer in the defeat with 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
ANDREW’S FREE PRAIRIE VIEW A&M VS FLORIDA A&M PREDICITON
I’ll stick with Prairie View. Granted, there’s not a lot to get excited about here if you’re not a fan of either team, but we should have a pretty good matchup all the same. The Panthers weren’t great on defense in their last defeat versus Bethune-Cookman, giving up 53.6 percent shooting and getting out-rebounded 34-28. Prairie View has been scoring pretty well lately though, with 69 or more points in four straight games.
As for Florida A&M, they’ve been below 62 points in two of the last three so a bounce-back offensive performance here would be nice. I don’t think the Rattlers will quite follow along though, leading to a Panthers cover/win.
Andrew’s Pick Prairie View A&M Panthers -1.5
