Kansas Jayhawks Preview

Kansas improved to 16-5 after defeating Baylor in Lawrence by three, 64-61. The Jayhawks held off the Bears in the second half of a defensive battle, and they’ll look to avoid trading a fourth straight game here in Lubbock. Kansas is scoring 78.1 points per game, on 50.6% shooting, while allowing 67.5 ppg, and they’re currently third in the Big 12 with a 7-4 record in league play. The Jayhawks are 6-4 over their previous ten games, and they’re 2-4 on the road this season.

KU Team Profile

  • Bill Self’s group operates at a balanced pace, averaging 71.6 possessions per game (146th), but they’ve found success from the outside, connecting on 35.3% of their threes (113rd).
  • Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson has hit the 20-point mark in three of the last five games, and he leads Kansas in rebounding (11.0), while scoring 18.7 ppg.
  • Austin native KJ Adams Jr. has been very efficient this season, and he’s averaging 12.7 ppg, while shooting 63.8% from the field.
  • Veteran guard Dajuan Harris Jr. has tallied seven dimes or more in four of the previous six games, and he leads KU in assists (6.6), while scoring 8.0 ppg.
  • Former TTU swingman Kevin McCullar Jr. (19.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 4.6 ago) has missed two of the last four games, and his status for this contest should be monitored.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Preview

Texas Tech improved to 16-5 after defeating UCF at home, 66-59. The Red Raiders controlled both halves to down the Knights, and they’ll attempt to build on that effort here against the Jayhawks. TTU is scoring 76.3 points per game, on 46.1% shooting, while allowing 68.4 ppg, and they’re currently 5th in the Big 12 with a 6-4 record in league play. The Red Raiders are 6-4 over their last ten games, and they’ve gone 12-1 in Lubbock this season.

TTU Team Profile

  • Grant McCasland’s group uses a shot clock heavy approach, averaging 68.3 possessions per game (293rd), and they shoot well from the outside at 37.5% (24th).
  • Sophomore guard Pops Isaacs has struggled over the last two contests, but he still leads Texas Tech in scoring (16.9).
  • Veteran guard Joe Toussaint went for a team-high 18 points in the Baylor matchup, and he still leads the team in assists (4.2), while scoring 12.7 ppg.
  • ASU transfer Warren Washington posted a double-double in the UCF victory, and he leads TTU in rebounding (7.8), while scoring 10.3 ppg.
  • Former GCU guard Chance McMillan has scored 15 points or more in three straight games, and he’s averaging an identical 10.3 ppg.

Kansas vs Texas Tech Trends

  • KU is 10-13-1 against the spread, with a 12-12 O/U record
  • TTU is 10-12-1 ATS, with a 15-8 over/under record.

Kansas vs Texas Tech Prediction

Kansas’ road struggles may come to the light, as they’ll now head to Lubbock to meet an offensive-minded Texas Tech team. The Red Raiders are still capable of defending, but they’ve been a lot stronger on the other end of the floor, and should be able to execute on their home floor. KU’s road losses to WVU and UCF are alarming, and if former TTU stud Kevin McCullar Jr. misses this contest, they’ll be entering without their best player, which could be troubling. Back Texas Tech by two at home for this Big 12 matchup, and give the Over a look in case Kansas comes to play.
