The USC Trojans will head up to the Bay Area to meet the Stanford Cardinal in Pac-12 play this Saturday from the Maples Pavilion on ESPNU. Stanford enters as 2.5-point home favorites, with the total hovering 152.5. Stay tuned for our USC vs Stanford Prediction.

Southern Cal Trojans Preview

USC fell to 9-14 after losing to California in Berkeley, 83-77. The Trojans couldn’t outlast the Golden Bears in overtime, and they’ll seek different results here in Stanford. Southern Cal is scoring 74.7 points per game, on 44.7% shooting, while allowing 72.5 ppg, and they’re currently last in the Pac-12 with a 3-9 record in league play. The Trojans are 3-7 over their last ten games, and they’ve gone 1-7 on the road this season.

USC Team Profile

  • Andy Enfield’s group is guard-heavy and likes to play an up-tempo style, averaging 74.4 possessions per game (72nd), and they’re a solid three-point shooting team, connecting on 35.4% of their attempts (107th).
  • Veteran guard Boogie Ellis’ return to the lineup led to A win over Oregon State, and he leads SC in scoring (16.8).
  • Freshman guard Isaiah Collier scored a team-high 20 points in the loss to Cal, and he’s second on the team at 15.6 ppg.
  • Wazzu transfer DJ Rodman grabbed 14 boards in the Oregon State victory, and he leads USC in rebounding (5.0), while averaging 7.8 ppg.

Stanford Cardinal Preview

Stanford dropped to 11-11 after losing to UCLA at home, 82-74. The Cardinal were on the wrong end of the Bruins’ best offensive effort in months, and they’ll look to avoid a third straight here versus the Trojans. Stanford is scoring 77.9 points per game, on 47.3% shooting, while allowing 75.9 ppg, and they’re currently 7th in the Pac-12 with a 6-6 record in conference play. The Cardinal are 5-5 over their previous ten games, and they’ve gone 8-4 in Stanford this season.

Stanford Team Profile

  • Jerod Haase’s squad likes to play up pace, averaging 74.7 possessions per game (46th), and they’re one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country at 38.6% (12th).
  • Junior forward Maxime Raynaud posted a 20-point double-double in the UCLA matchup, and he leads Stanford in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (10.0).
  • Freshman guard Kanaan Carlyle (13.4 ppg) returned against the Bruins, but he only finished with 2 points thru 19 minutes of action.
  • San Diego native Brandon Angel posted a 19-point double-double in the Arizona State victory, and he’s averaging 13.0 ppg and 4.7 rpg.
  • Senior guard Michael Jones has knocked down multiple threes in four of the last five games, and he’s up to 11.6 ppg.

Southern Cal vs Stanford Trends

  • SC is 10-13 against the spread, with a 15-8 O/U record
  • STAN is 12-10 ATS, with a 14-8 over/under record.

USC vs Stanford Prediction

Stanford finds themselves in danger of simply dropping two games at home they shouldn’t have, as their loss to UCLA could be followed up by trouble from the Trojans. To the Bruins’ credit, they’ve visibly turned around over the last three weeks, and while USC has gained two big pieces in Boogie Ellis and Isaiah Collier back, they haven’t delivered positive results. Stanford needs to get back into the win column, so versus trusting them or testing the upset with Southern Cal I like targeting the total. Both schools play fast and trend well with the Over, so I like swaying that sway for this in-state battle.
