Rider Broncs
The Broncs opened up their season with a blowout win over Immaculata 113-67, but things have gone downhill against tougher opponents since then. Rider fell 95-65 to Marquette and 64-50 to Nebraska in the next two games. The Broncs shot just 30.4 percent from the field in the loss to the Cornhuskers.
In game four versus Duquesne, Rider had their hands full again. The Broncs were down 37-22 after one half and didn’t end up getting closer in a 77-58 blowout loss. Rider’s Mervin James led the team on his double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Stony Brook Seawolves
Over on the Seawolves’ side, they kicked off their year with a loss to St. John’s 90-74, but bounced back versus Saint Joseph’s Long Island with a 91-50 win in game two. Stony Brook was back in the loss column versus Duquesne 85-63, hitting 33.3 percent of their shots from the floor and getting out-rebounded 47-32 along the way.
Stony Brook was unable to tame Nebraska in game four either. the Seawolves scored just 28 points in the first half during an 84-63 blowout loss. Leading Stony Brook in scoring was Jared Frey with 15 points and three steals.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably try Stony Brook. There’s not a ton to get excited about here, but we should have a competitive game if nothing else. The Seawolves didn’t play great versus Nebraska, shooting a middling 37.9 percent from the floor, 23.3 percent from 3-point range (7-of-30) and going 6-of-10 from the line. Stony Brook was outmuscled 45-28 on the boards as well. All of that said, the Seawolves should match up much better versus Rider. The outside shooting needs to improve, but Stony Brook will be able to cover if they can keep a nice rhythm throughout the game.
