The VMI Keydets will play the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks on Saturday afternoon in the Arizona Tip-Off at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. VMI has yet to beat a D-1 team this season, while Northern Arizona has split their last two games.
VMI Preview
The VMI Keydets are 1-3 this season after they lost to South Dakota by a score of 85-81 in their last game. VMI scored 37 and 44 points in each half, but their defense couldn’t get enough stops in the loss. The Keydets shot 47.5% from the field and turned the ball over 17 times in the game. VMI’s only win this season came against Christendom by a score of 87-53. VMI is scoring 75.3 points per game with 41.7 rebounds per game and 13 assists per game, while allowing 73.3 points against per game this season. Tyran Cook has led the Keydets with 13 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. VMI is shooting 46.4% from the field, 56.5% on free throws, and 35.5% on three pointers this year.
Northern Arizona Preview
The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks are 1-3 this year after they lost to PFW by a score of 77-67 in their last game. NAU trailed by two points at the half, but they allowed 42 points in the second half of the game. The Lumberjacks shot 45.8% from the field and turned the ball over 22 times in the loss. Northern Arizona’s only win this season came against Seattle by a score of 62-60. NAU is scoring 56.3 points per game with 27.7 rebounds per game and 13 assists per game, while giving up 81.3 points against per game this year. Liam Lloyd is averaging 11.3 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, and 7.0 assists per game. NAU is shooting 38.5% from the field, 57.5% on free throws, and 21.4% on three pointers this season.
Pick
Both of these teams come into this matchup with only one win, but VMI is still looking for their first D-1 win of the season. The Keydets hung in there against South Dakota on Friday, but couldn’t get enough stops down the stretch. NAU had a little bit of momentum after defeating Seattle earlier this week, but played a pretty poor second half against PFW. Both of these teams have struggled defensively, but NAU’s offense has been very inefficient. I am going to take VMI here, as they are able to generate more offense.
David’s Pick VMI ATS
