Dayton Preview
The Dayton Flyers are 1-0 this season after they defeated SIUE by a score of 63-47 in their last game. Dayton held their opponent to only 24 and 23 points in the two halves, and did enough on offense to pick up the win. The Flyers shot 41.7% from the field, 21.7% on three pointers, and 81.8% on free throws in the game. Dayton recorded 37 rebounds, 17 assists, and they turned the ball over 11 times in the win. DaRon Holmes II led the Flyers with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Nate Santos added six points and 14 rebounds. Dayton allowed 47 points on 32% field goal shooting and they forced 13 turnovers.
Northwestern Preview
The Northwestern Wildcats are 1-0 this year after they defeated Binghamton, by a score of 72-61 in their first game. Northwestern trailed by three points at the half, but they held Binghamton to only 22 points in the second half for the win. The Wildcats shot 42.4% from the field, 27.8% on three pointers, and 81% on free throws. Northwestern out rebounded their opponent by a total of 36-31, recorded 13 assists, and turned the ball over 12 times in the game. Boo Buie led the Wildcats with 27 points and two assists, while Brooks Barnhizer added 18 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Northwestern gave up 61 points on 41.5% shooting from the field, but they did force 19 turnovers.
Pick
Northwestern didn’t play very well in their season opener, but they were able to escape with a win after trailing at halftime. Dayton didn’t look flashy in their first game, but they played suffocating defense for the win. The Flyers will win quite a few ball games this season if they are able to replicate that defensive performance. Neither one of these teams has a solid offense and I think we are going to see a low scoring game here. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Dayton win this game, but I am going to take the under in this matchup.
David’s Pick Under 125.5
