SMU Preview
The SMU Mustangs are 2-0 this year after they defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God by a score of 82-63 in their first game and Western Illinois by a score of 90-53 in their second game. The Mustangs scored 48 points in the first half against WIU and they followed it up with a 42-point second half. SMU shot 47.4% from the field, 36% on three pointers, and 46.7% on free throws in their last win. The Mustangs out rebounded Western Illinois by a total of 48-38, had 21 assists, and only turned the ball over seven times. Keon Ambrose-Hylton led the Mustangs with 14 points and five rebounds, while Jalen Smith added 14 points and two assists in the win. SMU allowed 53 points to WIU on 30.9% shooting from the field and they forced 21 turnovers in the game.
Pick
SMU is one of the few teams in the country that has already played two games this season and they have won by 19 and 37 points. The Mustangs last win against Western Illinois was impressive, as they dominated from start to finish. Lamar has only played one game against a team that isn’t in Division 1, so this will be their first real test. SMU playing two days in a row is interesting, but I don’t think it will bother them this early in the season. On top of that, the Mustangs have been able to play plenty of people in their first two games, so a back to back should be fine. I think SMU continues to roll in this game and I like them to win big.
David’s Pick SMU ATS
