Can Utah Tech Take Another Step Forward

Utah Tech hasn’t had the easiest transition to D1 basketball, but they hope this is the year they can finally take the step forward. One problem for Utah Tech, though, is that four of the five starters from last year aren’t with the program anymore. Isaiah Pope, Cam Gooden, Frank Staine, and Jacob Nicolds aren’t with the team anymore. Cam Gooden came off the bench, but he also decided to start playing overseas instead of coming back. Aric Demings is a standout freshman who had choices to go other places, but instead decided to play at Utah Tech.

How Does Santa Clara Build on Last Year?

Santa Clara finished with a 23-10 record overall, and in conference play they went 11-5. They did lose some talent from last year's squad, though, they might have an uphill battle heading into this season. Santa Clara had the five top scorers leave from last season, and replacing them isn’t going to be easy. Carlos Marshall Jr averaged 10 points per game last season, and he’s back for another season in Santa Clara. In this game, Santa Clara is going to need to have some of the young guys step up, or this could be a disappointing loss to open up the season.

Santa Clara had a lot of players left, and I am not sold on this team being a great offensive team here.
