The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions will play the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a non-conference game at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas. Texas A&M-Commerce was blown out in their opener, while Texas Tech will be playing their first game of the season.
Texas A&M-Commerce Preview
The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions are 0-1 this season after they lost to Texas A&M by a score of 78-46 in their first game. Texas A&M-Commerce was able to score 27 points in the first half of the game, but they were out scored 36-19 in the second half for the loss. The Lions shot 29.6% from the field, 14.3% on three pointers, and 71.4% on free throws in the game. Texas A&M-Commerce was out rebounded by a total of 52-33, had nine assists, and turned the ball over 10 times. Jerome Brewer Jr. led the Lions with 13 points and five rebounds, while Kalen Williams added 10 points and two steals in the game. Commerce allowed 78 points on 46.7% field goal shooting.
Texas Tech Preview
The Texas Tech Red Raiders went 16-16 (5-13) last year and finished ninth in the Big 12 standings. Texas Tech played well in the non-conference last season, but really struggled in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders lost their first game in the Big 12 Tournament against West Virginia by a score of 78-62. Texas Tech scored 73.3 points per game with 35.1 rebounds per game and 12.9 assists per game, while allowing 69 points against per game last year. Texas Tech lost their top two leading scorers from last season, but they do return Pop Isaacs, who averaged 11.5 points per game, 2.7 assists per game, and 2.0 rebounds per game. Texas Tech shot 45.9% from the field, 72.2% on free throws, and 34.5% on three pointers last season.
Pick
Texas A&M-Commerce does have the benefit of having a game under their belt coming into this game, but they were throttled by Texas A&M in that one. The Lions struggled to shoot the ball, as they shot under 30% from the field, while they had major issues getting stops on the defensive end. Texas Tech didn’t play well in Big 12 play last season, but they did do well in the non-conference. I think Texas Tech is going to get off to a strong start this season with a blowout win over Texas A&M-Commerce. Take the Red Raiders here.
