Purdue Fort Wayne scored 73.9 points per game with 35.6 rebounds per game and 13.1 assists per game, while allowing 69.8 points against per game last year. PFW lost a lot of production from last year, but they do return Anthony Roberts, who averaged 7.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.9 steals per game. The Mastodons shot 43.9% from the field, 70.5% on free throws, and 34.6% on three pointers last year.
DePaul Preview
The DePaul Blue Demons went 10-23 (3-17) last season and they finished second to last in the Big East standings. DePaul did get a win in the Big East Conference Tournament against Seton Hall, but they lost their second game by a score of 89-84 to Xavier. DePaul scored 71.2 points per game with 32.4 rebounds per game and 13.8 assists per game, while allowing 77.3 points against per game. Da’Sean Nelson returns after being the fourth leading scorer last year by averaging 10 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, and 1.7 assists per game. DePaul shot 42.7% from the field, 73.9% on free throws, and 36.8% on three pointers this season.
Pick
DePaul is coming off of another rough year and they need to capitalize on these non-conference games before they get into Big East play. DePaul did start last season with three straight wins and they have a very favorable matchup here. Purdue Fort Wayne managed to get nine conference wins last season, but that didn’t translate to a good finish in the standings. Both teams lost a good amount of production from last season, so we will see a lot of new faces here. I don’t really care for either team, so I am going to take the points with PFW.
David’s Pick PFW +11.5
