The Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers and Maryland Terrapins face off on Tuesday in a college basketball showdown at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland. 

Can Mount St, Mary’s Build on Last Year’s Strong Finish?

Mount St. Mary’s finished last season strong and they hope they can build on that this season. The Mountaineers did lose a key player in Jalen Benjamin who averaged 16 points per game last season but he will be playing for Santa Clara this season. The good news is they still have a lot of good talent back. Dakota Leffew averaged 13.1 points per game last season, and he should be even better this season. The one area where they want to see him improve is with the defense. Josh Reaves was dealing with a broken leg last season, but there is some hope that he’s going to be a great asset off the bench. He is an elite shooter and probably the best shooter on the team. 

Not a Whole Lot of Buzz Surronding Maryland

Maryland last season finished with a 22-13 record overall but there still aren’t a whole lot of people talking about them heading into the season. The star of this team is Jahmir Young and last season he averaged 15.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. If he can improve his shooting from deep, he could hear his name called very early in the next NBA draft. DeShawn Harris-Smith was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and as a freshman, he’s going to be leaned on heavily. There might be some growing pains early, but as the season goes on, Harris-Smith should fit nicely into college basketball. Jahanthan Lamothe is a freshman also and he’s going to need to be good to give this team some depth.
