The Auburn Tigers will play the Baylor Bears in a non-conference game on Tuesday night at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Auburn had a decent season last year, while Baylor finished third in the Big 12 standings.
The Auburn Tigers were 21-13 (10-8) last year and they finished 7th in the SEC standings. Auburn didn’t lose a game until December 10th last year, but they struggled to end the regular season. The Tigers lost their first game in the SEC Tournament by a score of 76-73 to Arkansas. Auburn did get into the NCAA Tournament, where they defeated Iowa in the first round, before losing to Houston in the Round of 32. Auburn scored 72.8 points per game with 36.2 rebounds per game and 14.1 assists per game, while allowing 67.7 points against per game last year. Johni Broome was the leading scorer for the Tigers last year and he will be back this season. Broome averaged 14.2 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game, and 2.4 blocks per game. Auburn shot 44.1% from the field, 70.2% on free throws, and 31.4% on three pointers.
The Baylor Bears went 23-11 (11-7) last season and finished tied for third in the Big 12 standings with Kansas State. Baylor had an up and down year last season and they will look for more consistent play this year. The Bears lost their first game in the Big 12 Tournament to Iowa State by a score of 78-72. Baylor did defeat UCSB by a score of 74-56 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, but they lost their next game to Creighton. Baylor scored 77 points per game with 34 rebounds per game and 14.2 assists per game, while giving up 70.3 points against per game last season. Baylor did lose their top three leading scorers from last year, but Jalen Bridges did average 10.3 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, and 1.0 block per game. Baylor shot 44.7% from the field, 74.9% on free throws, and 37.2% on three pointers.
This should be a great game to watch and I am excited to see how both teams look to start the season. Both of these teams made the NCAA Tournament last year, but Baylor is the team that is ranked. I think these two teams are very evenly matched, but I give the slight advantage to Auburn in this game. Give me the Tigers to get a huge win.
