The Arizona Wildcats and the Princeton Tigers will meet in the first round of the South Region in Sacramento at the Golden 1 Center on TNT. Arizona won the lone meeting back in 1985, 54-41.
Princeton Betting Preview
Princeton improved to 21-8 after defeating Yale in the Ivy League Championship. The Tigers controlled both halves and capitalized on their home floor to beat the Bulldogs by nine, 74-65. Princeton is scoring 76.0 points per game, while allowing 68.9 ppg, and shooting 45.7% from the floor.
Princeton performed well at the Ivy League Championship, but they’ll face an uphill battle with the Pac-12 champions here. Senior forward Tosan Evbuomwan was one of the best players in the conference this season, and after scoring 21 points in both tournament wins over Penn and Yale, he leads Princeton in scoring (15.0) and assists (4.8), while grabbing 6.2 rpg. Freshman forward Caden Pierce has double-doubled in each of the last three games, and he leads the team in rebounding (7.1), while scoring 8.3 ppg.
Arizona Betting Preview
Arizona improved to 28-6 after defeating UCLA in the Pac-12 Championship. The Wildcats traded multiple leads with the Bruins, and they snuck away with a two-point win, 61-59. Arizona is scoring 82.7 points per game, while allowing 71.5 ppg, and shooting 49.6% from the floor.
Arizona avenged a season finale loss to UCLA to win the Pac-12 title game, and they’ll look to avoid being bounced prematurely here. The Wildcats have simply been able to overwhelm teams with size this season, and we could be in for more of the same here. Junior forward Azuolas Tubelis grabbed 14 rebounds in the win over UCLA, and he leads Arizona in scoring (19.8) and rebounding (9.3). Junior center Oumar Ballo forms an intimidating front line alongside him, and after scoring a game-high 24 points in the quarterfinal win over Stanford, he’s up to 14.2 ppg and 8.5 rpg.
Princeton vs Arizona Trends
Princeton is 15-12 against the spread this season, with a 16-11 over/under record. Arizona is 16-16-2 ATS this year, with a 18-16 o/u record. The Under is 4-0 in Tigers last 4 NCAA Tournament games.
Corey's Free Pick
Arizona’s twin towers will present something Princeton hasn’t come across all season, and they should have little trouble advancing. Now as far as them covering the hefty margin, that should simply come down to a matter of how long the Tigers can keep up with the Wildcats physically, which might not be for a long time. I like leaning on a bruising win from Arizona here in the first round.
