The Duke Blue Devils and the Virginia Cavaliers will face off in Greensboro to battle in the ACC Championship at the Greensboro Coliseum on ESPN.
Duke improved to 25-8 after defeating Miami in the semifinals. The Blue Devils led at the break, and held on to beat the Canes by seven, 85-78. Duke is scoring 72.1 points per game, while allowing 64.0 ppg, and shooting 44.6% from the floor.
Duke has won their last eight games in style, and they’ll look to avenge the most painful part of their season here when they face UVA. Freshman forward Kyle Filipowski posted his third double-double in four games in the win over Miami, and he leads Duke in scoring (15.2) and rebounding (8.9). Junior guard Jeremy Roach came up big again down the stretch against the Canes, and he’s up to 13.0 ppg and a team-lead 3.3 apg. Duke’s freshman class has grown right before our eyes, with Tyrese Proctor (9.2 ppg, 3.2 apg) double-doubling in the win over Pitt alongside Roach in the backcourt, and Mark Mitchell and Dereck Lively II beefing up the front line with Flip. First-year guard Dariq Whitehead chipped in 16 big points versus Miami.
Virginia improved to 25-6 after defeating Clemson in the semifinals. The Cavaliers controlled the entire contest, and beat the Tigers by twenty, 76-56. UVA is scoring 67.5 points per game, while allowing 60.5 ppg, shooting 44.5% from the floor.
Virginia picked up one of their more impressive wins of the season when they dominated Clemson, but they know this will be a different beast. Senior forward Jayden Gardner posted a 23-point double-double versus the Tigers, and he’s now averaging 11.9 ppg and 5.6 rpg. Fifth-year starter Kihei Clark is posting personal-bests in scoring (11.0) and assists (5.6) this season. Fellow senior guard Armaan Franklin leads UVA in scoring at 12.6 ppg after scoring 16 points against Clemson.
Duke is 12-19 against the spread this season, with a 11-19-1 over/under record. Virginia is 10-17-2 ATS this year, with a 15-14 o/u record.
A whirl of emotion from both sides will pour in Greensboro this Saturday. Duke and Virginia faced off in a classic in the mountains exactly one month ago to the date, and the outcome has served as the turning point for the favorites’ season. The Blue Devils were robbed of a share of the ACC title in Jon Scheyer’s first season that evening by a controversial missed foul call, and Saturday night, they will gain some retribution. UVA won’t go down easy, but Duke’s momentum is simply too much to overlook. Take Duke’s spread for the ACC Championship.
