The Saint Peter’s Peacocks and will meet in Atlantic City to face off in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Championship at Boardwalk Hall on ESPN+.
Marist moved to 12-19 after defeating Quinnipiac in the quarterfinals. The Red Wolves controlled the entire contest and beat the Bobcats by sixteen, 75-59. Marist is scoring 62.2 points per game, while allowing 67.0 ppg and shooting 41.1% from the floor.
Marist capitalized on a hot shooting outing versus Quinnipiac, and they’ll look to avoid a third loss to Saint Peter’s this season. Redshirt senior Patrick Gardner is going out strong, and after scoring 22 points in four of the last five games, he leads Marist in scoring (19.2) and rebounding (6.3). Freshman swingman Isaiah Brickner went off for a career-high 21 points in the win over the Bobcats, and he’s up to 7.1 ppg.
Saint Peter’s moved to 14-17 after defeating Rider in the quarterfinals. The Peacocks pulled away in the second half to beat the Broncs by eight, 70-62. St. Peter’s is scoring 63.7 points per game, while allowing 67.0 ppg and shooting 41.1% from the field.
St. Peter’s has won four of their last five games, and if they can pull off two more wins, they’ll have a chance to replicate some of last year's magic. Senior guard Isiah Dasher scored 16 points in the first win over Marist, and he finished as the team’s leading scorer at 13.3 ppg. Sophomore guard Jaylen Murray has shown up big down the stretch, scoring 20 points or more in three of the last four games, and he’s up to 11.7 ppg.
Saint Peter’s is 12-17 against the spread this season, with a 10-18-1 over/under record. Marist is 13-14-2 ATS this year, with a 17-11-1 o/u record.
Saint Peter’s and Marist will cross paths in what should be a slugfest. The Red Wolves have a special player in Patrick Gardner, who will end up being the best player on the floor. As much as I’d like to lean on that here, Marist won’t shoot nearly as well against a stingy St. Peter’s defense. The Peacocks also carry a mental edge, and after beating the Red Wolver twice, I like taking the underdog shot here on the former Cinderella darlings.
