The TCU Horned Frogs and the Kansas State Wildcats will meet in Kansas City in the first round of the Big 12 Championship at the T-Mobile Arena on ESPNU.
TCU dropped to 20-11 after losing to Oklahoma in Norman. The Horned Frogs fell behind big early, and ended up losing to the Sooners by fourteen, 74-60. TCU is scoring 76.0 points per game, while allowing 67.0 ppg, and shooting 46.5% from the field.
TCU’s big road loss to Oklahoma was alarming, and they might need a strong showing at the tournament to qualify for the Dance. Senior guard Mike Miles Jr. scored 23 points in the January win over Oklahoma, and he leads TCU in scoring at 17.2 ppg. Veteran guard Damion Baugh is one of the best passers in the country, and after dishing out nine assists or more in five of the last seven games, leads the Big 12 in assists (6.0), while scoring 13.0 ppg. Former A&M forward Emanuel Miller posted a 20-point double-double in the home finale win over Texas, and he leads the team in rebounding (6.5), while scoring 12.8 ppg.
Kansas State dropped to 23-8 after losing to West Virginia in Morgantown. The Wildcats trailed at the break, and ended up falling to the Mountaineers by eight, 89-81. Kansas State scores 75.3 points per game, while allowing 68.0 ppg, and shooting 45.1% from the field.
Kansas State had their four-game win streak snapped by WVU, and they’ll look to bolster their bubble case here. Former Florida forward Keyontae Johnson leads the way for KSU. Johnson went for a game-high 24 points against WVU in the finale, and he’s averaging team-leads of 17.8 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Veteran guard Markquis Nowell matched his energy with 24 points against the Mountaineers, and he’s scoring 17.0 ppg and dishing out a Big 12-leading 7.7 apg.
TCU is 15-15-1 against the spread this season, with a 16-15 over/under record. KState is 21-10 ATS this year, with a 16-15 o/u record.
A win here would be lovely for both Big 12 purple squads here, as TCU and Kansas State both possess tournament-worthy resumes. Both teams possess the gunners to win this game, and I think we get a shootout here. There’s a lot of production on both sides, and with both teams coming in fresh, we should see the best from them. Take the over for this Big 12 Quarterfinal.
