The Towson Tigers and the Charleston Cougars will meet in Washington DC to battle in the semifinals of the CAA Championship at the Entertainment & Sports Arena on CBSSN. Charleston leads to head-to-head series after winning eight of the last ten meetings.
Towson moved to 21-11 after defeating Delaware in the quarterfinals. The Tigers jumped onto the Blue Hens big early, and cruised to a 26-point victory, 86-60. Towson is scoring 71.3 points per game, while allowing 66.6 ppg, and shooting 44.4% from the floor.
Towson has won four of their last five games, and they’ll look to avoid a third loss to Charleston this season. Senior guard Nicolas Timberlake scored a season-high 34 points in the loss to the Cougars two weeks ago, and he leads the Tigers in scoring (17.7). Senior guard Cam Holden scored 22 points in the season finale win over NC-Wilmington, and he’s posting a nice line of 14.3 ppg, 7.1 rpg, and team-lead 4.8 rpg. Senior forward Charles Thompson leads the team in rebounding (8.0), while scoring 12.3 ppg.
Charleston improved to 29-3 after beating Stony Brook in the quarterfinals. The Cougars jumped out to a big halftime lead and held on to defeat the Seawolves by twenty-two, 74-52. Charleston is scoring 81.7 points per game, while allowing 68.0 ppg, and shooting 44.4% from the floor.
Charleston enjoyed one of their best seasons in school history, and they’ll look to win their ninth straight game here. Charleston scores at a high clip, and they’re one of the handful of teams in the country with five players averaging double figures. Senior guard Dalton Bolon leads the team in scoring at 12.7 ppg after consistent production throughout the season. Sophomore big Ante Brzovic scored a team-high 15 points in the win over Stony Brook, and he’s up to 11.1 ppg and a team-lead 5.7 rpg. Veteran guard Ryan Larson leads the Cougs in dimes (4.3), while scoring 10.1 ppg.
Towson is 16-15 against the spread this season, with a 17-14 over/under record. Charleston is 18-11-1 ATS this year, with a 13-16-1 o/u record.
Charleston has been one of the sharpest teams in the country this season, and they come into another manageable spot here. The Cougars have their last eight games by double figures, and after beating Towson twice already, they’ll bring in a mental edge as well. Charleston has high hopes this March, and I think they nail down win number thirty here. Take Charleston’s spread for this CAA Semifinal.
