The Sacred Heart Pioneers and the Merrimack Warriors will meet in Andover to battle in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament at the Hammel Court.
Sacred Heart moved to 16-16 after defeating Wagner in the NEC Tournament quarterfinals. The Pioneers pulled away in the second half after winning by twelve, 67-55. Sacred Heart is scoring 71.0 ppg, while allowing 71.3 ppg, and shooting 43.4% from the field.
Sacred Heart will look to avenge a February 18th loss to Merrimack here in what should be a good game. Junior forward Nico Galette led SHU in scoring this season (15.4), while grabbing 6.7 rpg. Junior forward Bryce Johnson double-doubled in the ast matchup with Merrimack. Senior guard Joey Reilly scored 21 points in the win over CCSU, and he’s up to 11.8 ppg.
Merrimack moved to 16-16 after defeating LIU Brooklyn in the NEC Tournament quarterfinals. The Warriors held on to a big halftime lead to beat the Sharks by fifteen, 91-76. Merrimack is scoring 62.2 ppg, while allowing 62.3 ppg, and shooting 41.8% from the field.
Merrimack is streaking into this contest, and after winning nine straight contests, they have a real chance to win the tournament. Senior forward Jordan Minor has been one of the best players in the conference this season, after grabbing 20 rebounds in the win over SHU, he leads Merrimack in scoring (17.3) and rebounding (9.3). Fellow veteran swingman Ziggy Reid went off for 33 points in the first round win over LIU, and he’s second on the team in scoring at 13.9 ppg.
Merrimack is 14-16 against the spread this season, with a 10-20 over/under record. Sacred Heart is 14-17 ATS this year, with a 12-19 o/u record.
Merrimack looks good coming into this contest, and I think they keep rolling. The Warriors have been the best team in the conference since January, and it’s unlikely an inconsistent Sacred Heart team slows them down here. Roll with Merrimack to win their tenth straight game, and take their spread Saturday.
Corey’s Pick Merrimack -4.5
