The Creighton Blue Jays will head up to Chicago to face the DePaul Blue Demons in Big East play from the Wintrust Arena on FS1. Creighton leads the all-time series, 24-14, after all but one meeting since joining the Big East back in 2013.
Creighton moved to 19-11 following a home win over Georgetown. The Bluejays jumped on the Hoyas early, and they cruised to a 40-point win, 99-59. Creighton is scoring 76.3 ppg, while allowing 67.5 ppg, and shooting 47.1% from the field.
Creighton was successful in their home finale, and they’ll now look to spoil DePaul’s final home game this weekend. The Bluejays are 13-6 in Big East play, with a 4-6 record on the road. Ryan Kalkbrenner’s return changed the outlook of Creighton’s season, and the junior center leads the team in scoring (14.9), while grabbing 6.4 rpg. SDSU transfer Baylor Scheierman double-doubled in the win over Georgetown last time out, and he’s up to 13.0 ppg and a team-leading 8.2 rpg. Arthur Kaluma (12.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg) joins them up front, while sophomore guards Ryan Nembhard (11.7 ppg, 5.0 apg) and Trey Alexander (13.4 ppg) round out the starting five.
DePaul dropped to 9-21 after losing to UConn in Hartford. The Blue Demons were held to a season-low 19 first half points, and they’d end up falling to the Huskies by twenty-nine, 88-59. DePaul is scoring 71.3 points per game, while allowing 75.9 ppg, and shooting 42.3% from the field.
DePaul’s abysmal season will reach its necessary conclusion this weekend, and they’ll look to avoid a twelve straight loss here. The Blue Demons are 3-16 in Big East action, with a 7-7 home record. DePaul plays through former OU guard Umoka Gibson and veteran forward Javan Johnson. Gibson has scored 17 points or more in six of the last seven games, and he’s up to team-leads of 16.2 ppg and 4.7 apg. Johnson is second on the team in both scoring (14.1) and rebounding (4.5). Senior big Nick Ongenda returned last month, and he’s averaging 11.2 ppg and 8.0 rpg through six appearances.
Creighton is 14-16 against the spread this season, with a 13-16-1 over/under record. DePaul is 11-17-2 ATS this year, with a 14-15-1 o/u record.
Creighton needs to nail down win number twenty here, and they’d got the matchup to do it. DePaul hasn’t been able to put it together for forty minutes all season, and it’s unlikely they figure it out when a group of birds fly to the Windy City. The Blue Jays had their season altered by the late outcome of the Marquette game, and they’ll clean things up with a pair of victories to close the season. With DePaul struggling to put the ball in the basket, and Creighton thriving on the defensive end, take the over for this battle of Big East blues.
