The Loyola (MD) Greyhounds will head up to Hamilton to take on the Colgate Raiders in Patriot League play from Cotterell Court on ESPN+. Colgate leads the head-to-head series, 15-5, after winning the last five meetings.
Loyola finished at 13-19 following a home win over Holy Cross. The Greyhounds capitalized on a good start to down the Crusaders by four points. Loyola is scoring 64.1 points per game, while allowing 69.2 ppg, and shooting 44.6% from the floor.
Loyola closed the season on a high note by winning four of their last five games, and they’ll look to upset the conference champs here. Freshman guard Deon Perry came into his own last month, and after scoring 22 points or more in four of the last six games, he leads the team at 11.6 ppg. Senior guard Jaylin Andrews is averaging an identical 11.3 ppg after reaching double figures in eight of the last ten games. Four-year starter Golden Dike grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds, and he leads the team in rebounding again (6.7), while scoring 7.0 ppg.
Colgate closed at 23-8 after beating Navy in Annapolis. The Raiders held off a second half rally from the Midshipmen, and picked up the four-point win, 64-60. Colgate is scoring 77.9 points per game, while allowing 70.3 ppg, and shooting 50.6% from the floor.
Colgate has been on a tear since Christmas break, and after winning 17 of their last 18 games, it’s championship or bust for them this March. Fifth-year senior Tucker Richardson has arguably been the best player in the conference, and he’s averaging a nice, well-rounded 14.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg, and 5.2 apg. Senior forward Keegan Records scored a game-high 25 points in the season finale win over Navy, and he leads Colgate in rebounding (6.1), while scoring 12.5 ppg.
Loyola (MD) is 14-16 against the spread this season, with a 17-13 over/under record. Colgate is 14-16 ATS this year, with a 17-13 o/u record.
Colgate has been on a tear, and they won’t let their opportunity to go dancing slip away this early in the tournament. The Raiders have a diverse, experienced attack that should be able to lead them to another victory, while Loyola will be leaning on youth. There likely won’t be an upset here, and with Colgate starring on the defensive end, I like targeting the over versus the massive margin.
