The Dayton Flyers will host the La Salle Explorers in Atlantic 10 play from UD Arena. This will mark the 50th time Dayton and La Salle face off, and the Flyers hold the head-to-head lead, 30-19, but the Explorers have won the last two meetings.
La Salle dropped to 13-16 after falling to George Washington in DC. The Explorers led the Colonials pull away in the second half, and they lost by seven, 92-85. La Salle is scoring 70.1 points per game, while allowing 73.1 ppg, and shooting 42% from the field.
La Salle has dropped their last three games, but they’ll look to put a dent in Dayton’s tournament hopes here. The Explorers are 7-9 in Atlantic 10 play, with a 5-7 road record. Sophomore guard Khalil Brantley has been the team’s most consistent player, and he’s leading La Salle in scoring (13.9) and assists (4.2). Senior guard Josh Nickelberry starts alongside him, and after dropping 28 points against Duquesne last week, he's up to 11.3 ppg. Senior forward Fousseyni Drame double-doubled in their most recent win over Richmond, and he leads the team in rebounding (5.8), while scoring 9.3 ppg.
Dayton fell to 19-10 after falling to George Mason at home. The Flyers weren’t able to control the game defensively, and they’d lose to the Patriots by five, 74-69. Dayton is scoring 69.0 points per game, while allowing 60.9 ppg, and shooting 47.3% from the floor.
Dayton had their four-game win streak snapped by GMU, and they’ll look to keep their postseason aspirations alive with a strong effort in their home finale. The Flyers are 8-4 in Atlantic 10 play, with a 12-1 home record. Dayton plays through their defense and big man Daron Holmes. The sophomore forward is coming off a season-high 36 points against Mason, and he leads the team in scoring (18.3) and rebounding (7.9). Junior forward Toumani Camara had a monster performance against conference leader VCU, going for 26 points and 15 boards to bring his season averages to 13.9 ppg and 8.8 rpg.
La Salle is 16-11 against the spread this season, with a 13-14 over/under record. Dayton is 13-14 ATS this year, with a 10-17 o/u record.
Dayton isn’t completely out of the tournament picture just yet, and they can stay alive with a win here as hosts. Now while I do believe in the Flyers executing here, they do face a stiff margin, and I like targeting the total a bit more. Dayton has defended at a high level at home this season, and that recipe could indeed affect the scoreboard once again. Take the under for this Atlantic 10 matchup.
