The IUPUI Jaguars and the Robert Morris Colonials will face off in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament from the UPMC Events Center on ESPN+.
IUPUI finished at 5-26 after losing to Youngstown State at home. The Jags stuck with the Pens in the first half, but they fell behind after the break and lost by 14 points, 93-79. IUPUI scores 65.3 points per game, while allowing 73.4 ppg, and shooting 45.8% from the field.
IUPUI endured another rough season, but after beating Robert Morris in the final week of the season, they may have a small ounce of life heading into this first round matchup. The Jaguars went 2-18 in Horizon League play, with a 0-14 road record. Sophomore guard JLynn Counter has been one of the lone spots for IUPUI this season, and he leads the team in scoring at 14.2 ppg. Freshman guard Vincent Brady II finished second on the team in scoring (10.9), after reaching double figures in six of the final seven games.
Robert Morris closed the regular season at 15-16 after losing to IUPUI in Indianapolis. The Colonials embarrassingly lost to the five-win Jags after falling behind in the second half, 81-75. RMU scores 69.4 points per game, while allowing 66.1 ppg, and shooting 44.6% from the floor.
Robert Morris won four straight games prior to closing season with a nasty loss to IUPUI, and it’s unlikely they over them once again here. The Colonials went to 10-10 in Horizon League play, with a 10-4 home record.b couldn’t have asked for a better matchup after suffering two conference losses. Sophomore guard Enoch Cheeks finished as the team’s leading scorer (16.1), after scoring 15 points or more in six of eight games this month. Senior forward Kahliel has complimented him well from the inside, and after posting a 27-point double-double against the Jags in the finale, he leads the Colonials in rebounding (8.2), while scoring 15.7 ppg.
RMU is 16-10-1 against the spread this season, with a 9-18 over/under record. IUPUI is 16-11 ATS this year, with a 16-11 o/u record.
Robert Morris will look to avenge an inexcusable loss to a lowly IUPUI team, and it should honestly come down to a matter of how much. The Colonials shouldn’t have lost in the season finale matchup, and this time IUPUI won't have the benefit of playing on their home floor. I like giving Robert Morris a chance to cover the lofty margin in this revenge spot.
