The San Jose State Spartans will host the Colorado State Rams in Mountain West play from the Providence Credit Union Center on the CBSSN. Colorado State holds a dominant series lead of, 23-1, but SJSU did win the latest meeting back on New Year’s Eve by eight points.
Colorado State moved to 13-16 after defeating Wyoming at home. The Rams jumped out to a double digit halftime lead, and held on to down to the Cowboys by thirteen, 84-71. Colorado State is scoring 73.3 points per game, while allowing 71.7 ppg, and shooting 49.4% from the floor.
Colorado State has traded their last five games, and they’ll look to buck that trend here in Silicon Valley Tuesday night. The Rams are 5-11 in MWC play, with a 8-7 home record. Senior guard Isaiah Stevens has been their most consistent player this season, and after double-doubling in the win over Wyoming, he leads the Rams in scoring (18.3) and assists (6.7). Fellow veteran guard John Tonje dropped a game-high 25 points against the Cowboys and he’s averaging career-highs in scoring and rebounding at 14.2 ppg and 4.9 rpg.
San Jose State moved to 17-12 following a home win over Boise State. The Spartans helped their in-state rivals atop the conference by downing the Broncos by six, 74-68. in Las Vegas. SJSU scores 68.0 points per game, while allowing 67.3 ppg, and shooting 45.9 from the field.
San Jose State pulled off another one of the pesky wins, and ultimately spoiled Boise’s conference title hopes along the way. SJSU is 8-8 in MWC play, with a 4-8 road record. Third-year starter Omari Moore gets things going for the Spartans. The 6’6 guard has scored a game-high 24 points in the win over the Broncos, and he leads SJSU in scoring (17.1) and assists (4.8). Fifth-year senior Sage Tolbert III leads the team in rebounding (7.3), while scoring 8.2 ppg.
Colorado State is 10-16 against the spread this season, with a 16-9-1 over/under record. San Jose State is 17-9 ATS this year, with a 15-11 o/u record.
It hasn’t been pretty for San Jose State this season, but they’ve been able to pick their spots in conference play and win games. Colorado State has been shaky aside from their two top dogs in the backcourt, and it’s hard to trust them away from home at this point in the season. San Jose State has made a name for themselves in the Mountain West, and I like them taking care of business in their home finale. Take SJSU’s spread for this MWC clash.
Corey’s Pick SJSU -3.5
