The Morgan State Bears will head down to Princess Anne to face MD-Eastern Shore Hawks in MEAC play from the Hytche Athletic Center. Morgan State leads the all-time series, 46-30, but UMES won the first matchup in Baltimore last month.
Morgan State fell to 11-10 after losing to Delaware State in Dover. The Bears and Hornets traded leads over twelve times, but DSU would prevail in the end with a two-point win. MSU scores 75.9 points per game, while allowing 71.6 ppg, and shooting 45.6% from the floor.
Morgan State remains alive in the conference title race, but they’ll need to conquer their demons and win a road game if they wish to do so. MSU is 6-6 in MEAC play, with a 2-12 road record. Fifth-year guard Isaiah Burke scored 23 points in first meeting with UMES, and he leads the team in scoring (19.0). Leading rebounding Malik Miller (17.5 ppg, 9.8 rpg) has been out since the end of January, and it’s handicapped their offensive attack over the past few weeks.
UMES moved to 16-11 after defeating Coppin State in Baltimore. The Hawks outscored the Eagles by double figures in both halves, and won by 21 points, 78-57. UMES is scoring 70.4 points per game, while allowing 66.3 ppg, and shooting 43.7% from the field.
UMES has dropped three of their last five games to conference leaders, but they’ll look to complete the season sweep over Morgan State here. UMES is 8-4 in MEAC play, with a 10-2 road record. Leading scorer Kevin Voyles (12.9 ppg) has missed the last two games, and his status will be worth monitoring prior to Monday night. Senior Zion Styles has stepped up in his absence, and after a 22-point showing versus NCCU last week, he’s up to 11.6 ppg. Senior forward Nate Pollard Jr. Posted a 22-point double-double in the first meeting, and he’s leading the Hawks in rebounding (8.0), while scoring 10.3 ppg.
Morgan State is 11-12 against the spread this season, with a 12-11 over/under record. MD-Eastern Shore is 14-7-1 ATS this year, with a 10-11-1 o/u record.
UMES still has a chance to capture the regular season crown, and they will likely come to play Monday night. Morgan State’s struggles outside of Baltimore are alarming, and after dropping five straight road games, they can be targeted here. UMES won the first meeting by 14 points, and I like them completing the season series here to keep their conference title hopes alive. Take UMES spread for this MEAC contest.
