The Loyola (MD) Greyhounds will head up to Hamilton to face the Colgate Raiders in Patriot League play from on Colgate and Loyola have faced off 20 times, with the Raiders holding a head-to-head series lead of, 14-6, after winning the last four meetings.
Loyola moved to 8-15 after beating Bucknell at home. The Greyhounds pulled away from the Bison in the second half to pick up a 14-point win. Loyola is scoring 64.1 points per game, while allowing 69.2 ppg, and shooting 44.6% from the floor.
Loyola completed the season sweep over last placed Bucknell, and they’ll now get back to reality when they head to Upstate New York. The Greyhounds have struggled to produce this season, and a lack of size has led to that. Kenneth Jones leads the team in scoring (11.3) after a 23-point performance against Lehigh. Jaylin Andrews went for a season-high 24 points in the win over Bucknell to bring his average to 10.6 ppg. Four-year starter Golden Dike leads the team in rebounding again (6.1), while scoring 6.4 ppg.
Colgate improved to 16-7 after beating Lafayette at home. The Raiders trailed the Leopards at the break, but after regrouping in the locker room, they’d pull away for the 12-point victory. Colgate is scoring 77.9 points per game, while allowing 70.3 ppg, and shooting 50.6% from the floor.
Colgate has won ten straight games and they will like extend that winning streak here with an underwhelming Loyola team coming to town. The Raiders 10-0 start has them comfortably atop the Patriot League standings, and they’re one of the most efficient teams in the country. Fifth-year senior Tucker Richardson has recorded two straight double-doubles, and he’s leading Colgate in scoring (14.5) and assists (5.0), while grabbing 5.2 rpg. Braeden Smith scored 21 points in the win over American, and he’s averaging 12.1 ppg and 4.2 apg. Senior forward Keegan Records leads the Raiders in rebounding (5.8), while scoring 12.3 ppg.
Loyola is 7-14 against the spread this season, with a 9-12 over/under record. Colgate is 10-12 ATS this year, with a 13-9 o/u record.
Colgate should have little trouble winning an eleventh straight game here, but they have been dealt a steep margin. Despite the Raiders terrific start, they haven’t exactly destroyed opponents. Aside from the lopsided 40-point victory over Loyola to open their winning streak, Colgate has been played fairly close, making this number a bit daunting. I’ll still lean on a one-sided Colgate victory here, but I’ll sway with the under, as four of their last five games have missed this number due to their defensive prowess. Take the under for this Patriot League matchup, with Colgate holding such an advantage, don’t ignore their potential blowout spread.
