The Clemson Tigers will travel down to Tallahassee to take on the Florida State Seminoles in ACC play from Florida State leads the all-time series, 46-33, but the home team has won each of the past six meetings.

Clemson improved to 17-4 after beating Georgia Tech at home. The Tigers beat their second technical school in a row at home, out scoring the Yellow Jackets by double digits in both halves en route to a 21-point victory. Clemson scores 74.3 points per game, while allowing 66.1 ppg, and shooting 46.7% from the floor.

Clemson’s success on the gridiron has quietly rolled over to the gymnasium, and they’re off to one of their best starts in school history. The front court duo of Hunter Tyson and P.J. Hall has given the Tigers a talented size advantage each time out. Tyson, a fifth-year senior, has been unleashed and he’s on the shortlist for ACC POY after leading the Tigers in scoring (15.5) and rebounding (10.1). Hall, a 6’10 junior, scored a season-high 26 points in the win over Duke, and he’s second on the team at 14.2 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Clemson will have to play through the strength of their front court, as leading guards Chase Hunter (14.1 ppg) and Brevin Galloway (10.6 ppg) are both slated to miss this contest.

Florida State dropped to 7-14 after losing to Miami in Tallahassee. The Seminoles were blitzed by the Canes early, and took another massive defeat, 86-63. Florida State scores 69.3 points per game, while allowing 74.0 ppg, and shooting 43.9% from the field.

There isn’t much optimism in Tallahassee this season, and you have to wonder if Florida State can even capitalize on a short handed Clemson team. It’s been a long, undisciplined and inconsistent season for Leonard Hamilton’s squad, but at 5-5 in ACC play, they still have a slim chance at dancing with an improbable finish. Sophomore guard Matthew Cleveland has done his part, posting seven straight double-doubles prior to last week, and leading FSU in scoring (14.4) and rebounding (8.0). UCF transfer Darin Green Jr. scored 24 points in the win over Pitt, and he’s up to 14.1 ppg. Junior guard Caleb Mills has been consistent, reaching double figures in each of the last eleven games, and averaging 13.1 ppg.

Clemson is 12-9 against the spread this season, with a 12-9 over/under record. Florida State is 10-11 ATS this year, with a 10-10-1 o/u record.

Florida State enters a very interesting spot this weekend. Although they underwhelmed mightily during the non-conference slate, they’ve been somewhat competitive in ACC play, and they’ll get a first-placed Clemson team at home, shorthanded. This is such an ideal situation for a trustworthy team, but the Noles simply aren’t that. I’d rather target the total, and trust a low scoring contest, with Clemson’s length and defensive prowess leading the way. With the Tigers top two guards out, FSU will have a shot, I just can’t commit to them right now. Look for Clemson to slow the game down, and attempt to beat Florida State with their brute, and take the under for this ACC battle.
