The Indiana Hoosiers will head up to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Big Ten play from the Williams Arena on the BTN. Indiana leads the all-time series, 99-66, after winning the last five matchups.
Indiana improved to 13-6 after beating Michigan State in Bloomington. The Hoosiers were blessed by another huge outing from Trayce Jackson-Davis, and defeated the Spartans by 13 points. Indiana is scoring 79.2 points per game, while allowing 67.8 ppg, and shooting 50.8 from the field.
Indiana carries a three-game winning streak into Minneapolis, and they’ve got a good shot to keep things going here. Trayce Jackson-Davis continues to be a game-changing presence for IU, and after going for a season-high 35 points against Illinois, he posted a 31-point double-double in the win over Michigan State. TJD grabbed a career-high 24 boards against Northwestern, and he leads IU in scoring (19.4) and rebounding (10.1) for the third season in a row. Jalen Hood-Schifino (12.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.4 apg) dropped a career-high 33 points in the loss to the Wildcats.
Minnesota fell to 7-11 after losing to Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Golden Gophers gave the Wolverines a run for their money, but they came up just a bit short, 60-56. Minnesota is scoring 62.5 points per game, while allowing 67.3 ppg and shooting 42.3% from the floor.
Minnesota is in the midst of a rough season, after starting Big Ten play 1-7, it’s unlikely the tide turns. The Gophers had big aspirations for hometown products Jamison Battle and Dawson Garcia, but it just hasn’t panned out for them. Garcia, a 6’11 forward, went for a season-high 28 points in the win over OSU, and he leads Minnesota in scoring (14.9) and rebounding (6.3). Battle, a 6’7 forward, scored 20 points against Nebraska, and he’s averaging 12.1 ppg and 3.7 rpg. Morehead State transfer Ta’lon Cooper double-doubled against Michigan, and he’s posting a solid line of 10.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 5.7 apg.
Indiana is 9-9-1 against the spread this season, with a 12-6-1 over/under record. Minnesota is 7-10-1 ATS this year, with a 5-13 o/u record.
Indiana comes into a great spot to win a fourth straight game. Minnesota has simply dropped the ball in conference play, and it’s unlikely they halt what the Hoosiers have brewing right now. While Indiana should win this game SU, but the margin could get a bit tricky with a spiraling Minnesota team at home, so I like targeting the total here. Take the over for this Big Ten battle as nine of Indiana’s last ten games have surpassed this number.
