The Dayton Flyers will head over to Kingston to face the Rhode Island Rams in Atlantic 10 play from the Ryan Center on the CBSSN. Dayton leads the all-time series, 24-18, after winning six of the last seven meetings.
Dayton dropped to 13-7 after losing to George Washington in DC. The Flyers fell victim to a big game from GWU’s James Bishop IV, and lost by seven points. Dayton is scoring 68.2 points per game, while allowing 59.6 ppg, and shooting 46.6% from the floor.
Dayton has lost two of their last three games, but they end the month of January on a light note, so they’re likely to avoid a spiral. Dayton plays through big man DaRon Holmes II in the middle. The sophomore big double-doubled against GWU last time out, and he’s due a big performance after a quiet three-game stretch. Holmes leads the Flyers in scoring (18.4), while grabbing 8.1 rpg. Toumani Camara is one of the best defensive players in the nation, and after going for a season-high 27 points against VCU, he’s up to career-highs of 12.8 ppg and 9.1 rpg.
Rhode Island dropped to 6-13 after losing to George Mason at home. The Rams fell behind big early to the Patriots, and failed to rally back en route to a seven-point win. Rhode Island scores 66.9 points per game, while allowing 70.1 ppg, and shooting 39.9% from the field.
Rhode Island will look to avoid a fourth straight loss as Archie Miller will lead his squad against a familiar foe. URI will look to avoid falling into the A-10 cellar here, but they may just have their hands full with the Flyers. The Rams get most of their production from the sophomore guard pairing of Ishmael Leggett and Braylon Freeman. Leggett posted a 23-point double-double in the win over St. Bonaventure, and he leads URI in scoring (15.8), while grabbing 6.1 rpg. Freeman scored a team-high 25 points last time out versus GMU, and he’s up to 14.3 ppg.
Dayton is 9-11 against the spread this season, with a 8-12 over/under record. URI is 7-12 ATS this year, with a 11-8 o/u record.
Dayton can avoid a spiral if they go out and lay it on their former coach’s team. The Flyers will face a stiff margin on the road, but I like them flexing their muscles on an inferior opponent and bottling the Rams up on the road . DaRon Holmes will give URI trouble here, and Dayton should get back into the win column, so take their spread for this Atlantic 10 clash.
