The LSU Tigers will head up to Fayetteville and face the Arkansas Razorbacks in SEC play from the Bud Walton Arena on ESPN2. LSU leads the all-time series, 41-35, but Arkansas has won three of their last four games.
LSU dropped to 12-7 after losing to Tennessee in Baton Rouge. The Tigers failed to respond to a slow start, and lost to the Vols by 21 points. LSU is scoring 67.9 points per game, while allowing 67.6 ppg, and shooting 42.9% from the floor.
LSU has hit a wall with SEC play fully underway. The Tigers have dropped their last six games, and after starting conference play with a win over Arkansas, the Hogs will surely have revenge in mind. Murray State transfer KJ Williams has done his part, but offense has been scarce beyond him. The 6 '10 forward scored 23 points against Florida and Kentucky, and he leads LSU in scoring (17.8) and rebounding (7.1). Former Illinois guard Adam Miller is the only LSU player in double figures at 11.8.
Arkansas moved to 13-6 after beating Ole Miss at home. The Razorbacks out scored the Rebels in both halves, and came away with the 12-point victory. Arkansas scores 75.8 points per game, while allowing 66.3 ppg, and shooting 47.2% from the field.
Arkansas snapped a four-game skid with the win over Ole Miss, and they find themselves in a nice spot to reel in another victory. The Hogs have only lost at home once this season, and the Tigers are streaking the wrong way. Ricky Council IV leads the team in scoring (17.2) after a 24-point showing versus Vandy. Veteran guard Davonte Davis recorded a double-double against Bama, and he’s scored 16 points or more in four of the last five games. Freshman guard Anthony Black had back-to-back 26-point outings in wins over Creighton and Louisville, and he’s posting a nice line of 12.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg, and 4.1 apg.
LSU is 6-13 against the spread this season, with a 6-11-1 over/under record. Arkansas is 8-10-1 ATS this year, with a 6-11-1 o/u record.
These two schools have been hit by the depth of the SEC, and Arkansas must approach this as a must-win game. LSU’s free fall is showing little sign of stopping, as they’ve failed to find production beyond KJ Williams. The Hogs are historically good at Bud Walton, and coach Musselman should have his team ready to go for this winnable game. The stiff margin could cut close, but the Tigers have looked lifeless since the turn of the new year, so take Arkansas spread for this SEC battle.
