The Fresno State Bulldogs will head up to Idaho to face the Boise State Broncos in Mountain West play from the ExtraMile Arena on FS1. Boise State leads the all-time series, 26-22, after winning four of the last five meetings.
Fresno State moved to 7-11 after beating UNLV at home. The Bulldogs may have buried the Runnin’ Rebels after picking up a shorthanded, double digit victory, 76-63. Fresno is scoring 61.4 points per game, while allowing 62.9 ppg, and shooting 42.6% from the floor.
Fresno State snapped a three-game skid with the win over UNLV, but they’ll have their hands full here. The Bulldogs may be without their two leading scorers in Isaih Moore (12.1 ppg, 7.9 rpg) and Jermarl Baker (11.5 ppg) for the third straight game, and that will be tough to overcome against a stiff Boise unit. Veteran guard Isaiah Hill returned and went off for a season-high 28 points in the win over UNLV, and he’s up to 10.2 ppg.
Boise State fell to 15-5 after losing to New Mexico in Albuquerque. The Broncos and Lobos found themselves in a shootout, and UNM would find a way to escape in overtime by two points. Boise State is scoring 73.2 points per game, while allowing 61.6 ppg, and shooting 45.3% from the floor.
Boise State lost their first game of the new year last time out versus New Mexico, but they come into an ideal spot to bounce back in. The Broncos are one of four teams that sit at 5-2 in the Mountain West, and they’ll look to stay afloat here. Sophomore forward Tyson Degenhart has picked things up since the start of conference play, and after going for a season-high 28 points against UNM, he leads Boise in scoring (14.4), while grabbing 5.7 rpg. Senior guard Max Rice went for 29 points in the win over Nevada, and he’s second on the team at 13.5 ppg. Fellow veteran guard Marcus Shaver Jr. is posting a nice line of 13.4 ppg, and team-leads of 6.5 rpg and 4.4 apg.
Fresno State is 5-12 against the spread this season, with a 5-11 over/under record. Boise State is 13-5-1 ATS this year, with a 8-10 o/u record. The Bulldogs are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Broncos are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Boise State will look to respond to their first loss since the conference opener, and they should be able to get back into the win column here. Boise and Fresno make up two of stronger defenses on the West Coast, so the under is very well in play here, but I really like the Broncos taking care of business at home against an offensively challenged Bulldogs team. Take Boise State’s spread for this MWC clash.
