The Norfolk State Spartans will head up to Baltimore to face the Morgan State Bears from Hill Field House on ESPNU. NSU has won eight of the last ten meetings, but MSU was able to win last year's contest in Baltimore.
Norfolk State is 13-6 after defeating Coppin State in Baltimore. The Spartans hung a season-high 96 points on the Eagles en route to a 31-point victory. NSU scores 75.9 points per game, while allowing 68.5 ppg, and shooting 48.1% from the field.
Norfolk State is off to a 3-1 start in MEAC play, and they’ve won eight of their last ten overall. Fifth-year vet Joe Bryant still leads the charge for the Spartans, and after scoring 23 points against Howard, he leads NSU in scoring (16.8) and assists (3.9). Veteran Kris Bankston double-doubled in wins over UMES and Coppin State, and he’s leading the squad in rebounding (7.3), while scoring 13.7 ppg.
Morgan State fell to 10-9 after losing to Howard in DC. The Bears failed to keep up with the Bison and they left the Capitol with a 32-point loss. MSU scores 79.3 points per game, while allowing 72.1 ppg, and shooting 47.1% from the field.
Morgan State had their six-game win streak snapped last time out, and they’ll have an uphill battle here with NSU. Fifth-year veteran Isaiah Burke has revved things up this year, and after three straight 30-point performances, he leads MSU in scoring (20.1). Malik Miller has double-doubled in three of the last four games, he’s averaging 17.5 ppg and a team-lead 9.8 rpg.
Norfolk State is 6-8-1 against the spread this season, with a 8-6 over/under record. Morgan State is 8-7 ATS this year, with a 8-6 o/u record.
Norfolk State will look to double up in Baltimore this Monday evening in a battle of two high scoring teams. Morgan State will surely want to avenge their last loss, but they’ve struggled against the Spartans, and that trend could continue here. I’m going to roll with my home state here, and take Norfolk State’s spread for this MEAC contest.
