The Furman Paladins will make the 45-minute trip to Spartansburg to take on the Wofford Terriers in Southern Conference play from Richardson Stadium on ESPNU. This will mark the 55th time Wofford and Furman face off, and the Terriers hold an all-time series lead of, 32-22.
Furman improved to 14-6 after defeating Chattanooga on the road. The Paladins wore the Mocs down, and left Tennessee with an eight-point victory. Furman scores 81.7 points per game, while allowing 72.1 ppg, and shooting 49.3% from the floor.
Furman is off to a nice 5-2 start in conference play, but they’ll need to stay sharp if they want to stay within top two places schools Samford and UNC Greensboro. The Paladins possess one of the top offensive units in the nation again this season, and their led by fifth-year veteran Mike Bothwell. The 6’3 guard has scored 22 points in back-to-back games, and he’s on pace to lead Furman for the third season in a row with a career-high 19.7 ppg. Fellow longtime Paladin Jalen Slawson double-doubled against UNCG, and he leads the team in rebounding (7.1), while scoring 15.2 ppg. Junior guard Marcus Foster scored 25 points in the win over Mercer, and he’s averaging 11.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg.
Wofford dropped to 11-9 after losing to Western Carolina on the road. The Terriers failed to maintain a halftime lead, and lost to the Catamounts by five points. is scoring 73.8 points per game, while allowing 67.7 ppg, and shooting 46.7% from the field.
Wofford remains a respectable presence in the Southern Conference, but they need to rev things up if they want to be in the picture when March rolls around. The Terriers run through big man B.J. Mack again this season. The 6’8 senior scored 19 points in the win over VMI, and he leads the Terriers in scoring (15.3), while grabbing 5.2 rpg. Jackson Paveletzke scored 22 points in the over Texas A&M, and he scoring 13.6 ppg, while leading the team in assists (3.8).
Furman is 8-9 against the spread this season, with a 10-6-1 over/under record. Wofford is 10-7 ATS this year, with a 9-8 o/u record.
Furman looks like a team to beat in the SoCon and they’ve got to prove that this Sunday. The Paladins will want to avoid a third conference loss so early, and they’ve got the experience to trust them on the road here. Wofford has been shaky against the premier offenses in the conference, and the same thing may occur here, so take Furman's spread for this Southern Conference matchup.
