The UAB Blazers will head up to Murfreesboro to meet the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders in Conference USA play from the Murphy Center on CBSSN. UAB holds a 17-9 series lead.
UAB improved to 13-5 after defeating Louisiana Tech in Ruston. The Blazers would use a strong second half to take down the Bulldogs by seven points. UAB is scoring 85.8 points per game, while allowing 72.3 ppg, and shooting 46.8% from the floor.
UAB snapped a three-game skid with the win over the Bulldogs, and they’ll look to climb back to the top of the Conference USA standings. The Blazers are led by one of the best scorers in the country in Jordan Walker (23.8 ppg), whose statuses will need to be motores after missing the Louisiana Tech game. Eric Gaines stepped up in his absence, scoring a season-high 22 points to bring his average to 12.3 ppg with a team-leading 4.8 apg. Trey Jamison has double-doubled in two of the last three games, and he leads the in rebounding at 8.1.
Middle Tennessee moved to 10-7 after beating Rice in Houston. The Blue Raiders in-state foe Belmont in Nashville. The Blue Raiders added another quality win to their resume after pulling away from the Bruins in overtime. MTSU is scoring 70.1 points per game, while allowing 65.8 ppg, and shooting 45.9% from the floor.
Middle Tennessee leans on their physical grit once again this season, Fifth-year forward Deandre Dishman double-doubled in wins over Winthrop and Belmont, and he leads MTSU in scoring (12.4) and rebounding (5.6). Junior guard Eli Lawrence tied a season-high with 21 points in the win over Rice, and he’s up to 12.3 ppg.
UAB is 10-7 against the spread this season, with a 6-11 over/under record. MTSU is 9-7 ATS this year, with a 8-8 o/u record.
One of the toughest defenses in the nation win have the task of hosting one of the strongest offenses in the country, and I like UAB a lot in this spot.
