The UNC Tar Heels will head up to Kentucky and meet the Louisville Cardinals in ACC play from the KFC Yum! Center on ESPN.
North Carolina dropped to 11-5 after losing to Virginia in Charlottesville. The Tar Heels failed to hold onto a slim halftime lead, and ended up losing to the Cavs by eight points. MUNC is scoring 80.9 points per game, while allowing 74.6 ppg, and shooting 45.7% from the floor.
North Carolina returned most of their Final Four squad from last season, but they’ve delivered mixed results early. Armando Bacot is still one of the best interior players in the country. The senior big from Richmond has double-doubles in six of the last seven games and he leads UNC in scoring (18.5) and rebounding (11.2). Caleb Love and RJ Davis are one of the best backcourt duos in the country. Love scores 17.5 ppg, and while he can be erratic at times, when he’s on, he’s on. Davis has been the team’s most consistent player outside of Bacot, and he’s averaging career-bests of 15.9 ppg and 5.4 rpg.
Louisville fell to 2-15 after losing to Clemson on the road. The Cardinals went into the locker room down double figures, and ended up falling by 13 points. Louisville is scoring 61.4 points per game, while allowing 73.5 ppg, and shooting 40.1% from the floor.
Louisville is in a transition stage as a program, but it’s hard to remember the last time they’ve looked like this. After losing their first three games by a single point, the Cardinals come into Lexington beyond desperate for some direction. El Ellis has been the lone bright spot offensively, leading the Cards in scoring (17.5) and assists (4.1). Tennessee transfer Brandon Huntley-Hatfield leads the team in rebounding (6.1), while scoring 8.2 ppg.
UNC is 10-7 against the spread this season, with a 6-11 over/under record. Louisville is 9-7 ATS this year, with a 8-8 o/u record.
Logically, UNC comes into the bluegrass and walks out as winners here as visitors. Louisville is a lost cause this season, and should be targeted and attacked for the rest of year. Roll with UNC to cover here in this ACC contest.
