The George Mason Patriots will head up to Missouri and face the Saint Louis Billikens in Atlantic 10 action from the Chaifetz Arena on ESPN. Saint Louis leads the all-time series 9-4, after winning a double-OT shootout by two points at home last season.
George Mason improved to 10-6 after beating Loyola Chicago in Fairfax. The Patriots wore the Ramblers down and pulled away in the second half to secure the 11-point victory. George Mason is scoring 71.7 points per game, while allowing 67.3 ppg, and shooting 46.8% from the floor.
George Mason hit their stride after the Thanksgiving break, and after starting A-10 play on a solid note, they’ll look to wake the conference up with a strong showing in St. Louis. Josh Odubo leads the charge for Kim English’s team. The three-year starter has double-doubled in each of the last three wins, and he’s posting team-leads in scoring (13.4) and rebounding (7.9). Victor Bailey Jr. has hit three or more treys in six of his last seven games, and he’s scoring 13.2 ppg.
Saint Louis also moved to 10-6 after taking St. Bonaventure down at home. The Billikens put together their best effort since Thanksgiving, beating the Bonnies by 23 points. Saint Louis is scoring 77.1 points per game, while allowing 71.6 ppg, and shooting 45.2% from the field.
Saint Louis got back into the win column with the win over SBU, but after trading their last six games, they’ll look to find some consistency with a manageable stretch of conference play upcoming. SLU carries one of the most experienced teams in the A10, and they’re led by stud point guard Yuri Collins, who truly orchestrates the offense and has a string on the basketball. Collins leads the country in assists at 10.8 apg, including a school record 20 dishes against Tennessee State, and double-doubling in each of the past four games. Gibson Jimerson leads SLU in scoring at 12.9 ppg after a 22-point outing versus St. Joe’s. Francis Okoro mans the middle and is one of the top rebounders in the conference at 8.7 rpg. Senior guards Javonte Perkins (9.8 ppg) and Javon Pickett (11.2 ppg, 6.1 rpg) round out the veteran five.
George Mason is 9-7 against the spread this season, with a 7-9 over/under record. Saint Louis is 7-8 ATS this year, with a 8-7 o/u record.
It’s simply going to come down to a matter of execution for Saint Louis here at home. They will hold noticeable size and experience advantages here, and they’ll have the best point guard in the country on his home floor against a GMU team that has lost all three of their road games. I hate to turn my back on Fairfax, but I like the Billikens back-to-back games for the first time since Thanksgiving here. Take Saint Louis spread for this Atlantic 10 battle.
