The Charleston Cougars will cross the Carolina border and face the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks in CAA action from Trask Coliseum on ESPN+. UNC-Wilmington holds the all-time series lead, 14-7, after winning each of the last four meetings.
Charleston improved to 16-1 after beating Delaware at home. The Cougars picked up another hard fought victory, outscoring the Blue Hen in both halves en route to an eleven-point win. Charleston is scoring 80.8 points per game, while allowing 70.6 ppg, and shooting 44.4% from the floor.
Charleston is off to arguably their best season in school history, and they’re ranked in the polls for the first time in 20 years. The Cougars are riding high with even higher hopes into Wilmington here, and they’ve got a good chance to keep this magical streak going. Charleston scores at a high clip, and they’re one of the few teams in the country with five scorers averaging double figures. Dalton Bolon recorded a 22-point double-double in the win over A&T, and he leads the team with 12.9 ppg.
UNC-Wilmington improved to 14-3 after defeating N.C. A&T on the road. The Seahawks nearly found trouble in Greensboro, but they’d hold on to defeat the Aggies by five points. Wilmington is scoring 71.7 points per game, while allowing 62.9 ppg, and shooting 45.6% from the floor.
UNC-Wilmington carries a ton of momentum into this matchup as well, and should not be overlooked as home underdogs. The Seahawks have won 13 games in a row, and should carry a motivating chip on their shoulder heading into this one. Trazarien White leads the way for UNCW. The sophomore forward double-double in the win over ECU, and he scored a season-high 26 points in the win over Elon. White leads Wilmington in scoring (14.1) and rebounding (5.8).
Charleston is 11-5 against the spread this season, with a 6-9 over/under record. Wilmington is 11-4-1 ATS this year, with a 7-8 o/u record.
Wow, I’m sure the CAA is thrilled to possibly have a game of the nite candidate, as two of the hottest teams in the country will face off Wednesday night. There will be a lot of pressure on both sides, but the host come into this one with both a chip on their shoulder and a chance to leave their mark. Charleston has been incredible offensively this season, and if Wilmington intends to make this a game, we should see a load of points here. Overtime would be lovely, but take the over this high stakes CAA battle, and don’t shy away from the underdog, spoiler element UNCW presents.
